Icelandic Wikipedia
editThe Icelandic Wikipedia (Icelandic: Íslenska Wikipedia) was created on December 5, 2003. It’s Wikipedia but in Icelandic, and has less articles. The Icelandic Wikipedia has over 50 thousand articles! At all times, it has around 20 active users.
On the Icelandic Wikipedia’s 10th anniversary on December 13 2013, there was a conference was held at the National Library of Iceland.[1] 30 photographs were taken because of the riot in Austurvelli in 1949 for the same reason. They were scanned from the National Archives of Iceland, then put on Wikimedia Commons.[2] The dudes at the conference also decided to hold weekly Wikipedia meetings in the computer laboratory on the third floor of the National Library of Iceland, in connection with the creation of Wikimedia Iceland.
Creation
editFrom its creation, on the 5th of December in 2003, until November 2005, the growth of the Icelandic Wikipedia was slow. In November 2005, articles on Icelandic personal names were added systematically. Now there were 3 and a half thousand articles. May 2006, the Icelandic Wikipedia now had 10 thousand articles. (see Wikipedia:Merkisáfangar). After that, there was fairly fat growth, with the Wikipedia reaching 20 thousand articles in February 2008. Thirty thousand articles in November 2010. Then, there wasn’t a lot of articles being created in the Wikipedia. 40 thousand articles in autumn 2015, so about 5 years to create another 10,000 articles. Then another 5 years, 50 thousand articles in mid-2020.
The amount of very active users, users with more than 100 edits can be counted on one hand, and there are 30 users who have more than 5 edits.[3]
