Housing Development Corporation (HDC) (temporarily Urbanco) is a state owned enterprise formed by a decree in the Maldives, initially established in 2001, which has operated in several islands in the Maldives including Hulhumalé, Gulhi Faru, Thilafushi, Kudagiri, Urban Isle and Ras Malé. The company are involved in the planning, development, and management of housing projects.[2]
In 2023, Housing Development Corporation was renamed into Urbanco,[3] The rebranding of HDC to Urbanco was announced at its 22-year anniversary event held on April 1, 2023. Subsequently, the logo displayed outside their offices, as well as on company t-shirts, were also replaced to reflect the name change. in 2024, Urbanco has decided to revert to calling themselves Housing Development Corporation, the decision had been made in consideration of the confusion the name change has caused among the public.[4]
