Gran Plaza Mazatlán is a shopping mall located in the city of Mazatlán. It is the largest shopping mall in the city and it was founded in 1991.[1]

The shopping center has been the site of several incidents by armed groups.

On July 12, 2008, armed gunmen took 40 hostages and after murdering a police officer, they hid in a restaurant in the shopping center. They escaped in a car with eight people, 7 were freed and they continued with only one hostage.[2]

On November 5, 2015, a shooter killed a merchant in his store and then fled.[3]

Facilities edit

Gran Plaza Mazatlán has two large food courts, many clothing, appliance and footwear stores, a Starbucks and a Cinepolis.

Events edit

In the shopping center there is the wall of expression, which is a well-known place where local and national artists exhibit artistic works, and events of all kinds are also held.[4][5]
