Grace Brebner QPM is an Australian former police officer who was the first female inspector to be employed by Victoria Police.
Early Life
editBrebner was born in 1914 in Joyce's Creek in Central Victoria. She later moved to Mildura with her family.
Policing Career
editBrebner joined the police force in 1942, after being inspired by an article about policewomen. She was the 14th policewoman ever in Victoria Police's history. After 7 years working within the Women's Division, she was the first female detective in Australia being appointed to Russel Street Criminal Investigation Branch in 1950. She scored only 1.5 points behind the dux of her detective training school class.
