Gilbert Angus Bain (died 24 March 1887) was a prominent businessman, landowner and juror in Singapore.

Early life edit

Bain was born in Lerwick, Scotland.[1]

Career edit

Bain came to Singapore in 1842 and began working as a clerk. He later became a partner of several prominent companies in Singapore, including Whampoa & Co. and Maclaine, Fraser & Co..[1][2] Bain was also a prominent landowner. He owned two large properties in Tanjong Pagar, one of which was named Bain's Hill. After selling Bain's Hill, he used the money to invest in several other properties.[1]
