Fresh Blueberry Pancake was a Pittsburgh based Rock band formed in 1968 by singer and bassist Tony Impavido, guitarist John Behrens, and drummer Geoff Rydell. In 1970 the band made 54 copies of their 1970 demo "Heavy" on vinyl. Because of the low number of copies, the album has been sought after by vinyl collectors. After the making of the album the band shortened it's name to Pancake. The band disbanded in 1972.

History

edit

Formation and before Heavy years (1968-1970)

edit

Tony Impavido, John Behrens, and Geoff Rydell (Also spelt as Riedell) formed Fresh Blueberry Pancake in 1968 and started out covering Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and Steppenwolf songs at local gigs in Pittsburgh. Soon they got bored of covering songs and started writing their own.

Making Heavy and disbanding (1970-1972)

edit

Once they wrote all of the material they went to a studio and recorded all of the music to make a demo tape. The album was a white sleeve with a sticker on it that said Fresh Blueberry Pancake:Heavy. Because of the sticker the unofficial name for the album was Heavy. The album was released on October 6th, 1970. The band made 54 copies of the album to give to Disc Jockey's.

After the making of "Heavy" the band shortened it's name to Pancake and played gigs up until 1972 when they disbanded.

Aftermath (1972-Present)

edit

After that Tony Impavido and John Behrens formed a cover band called Flight. In 2001 Tony Impavido joined the band Pure Gold which covers 50's-80's Doo-wop songs.

That same year the German record label Shadoks records illegally pirated and reissued the album and sold it without the permission of any of the band members.

On July 1st the record label Ancient Grease Records released the first official copy of Heavy by Fresh Blueberry Pancake with a 8 page booklet about the bands history.[1]
