Feared is a Swedish death metal band formed in Stockholm in 2007 by guitarist Ola Englund and vocalist Mario Santos-Ramos.[1] Known for their heavy, aggressive sound and technical proficiency, Feared's music incorporates elements of death metal, thrash metal, and groove metal. Their sound is heavily influenced by '90s American metal bands such as Pantera, Testament, and Machine Head[2], blending these influences with their own unique style. Ola Englund, the driving force behind the band, serves as the primary songwriter, guitarist, and producer. What began as a side project for Englund quickly gained momentum, leading to the release of multiple acclaimed albums and a dedicated following in the metal community.[3]

History

Formation and Early Years (2007-2010)

edit

Feared was formed in 2007 by Ola Englund and Mario Santos-Ramos. The duo initially created music as a side project, with Englund handling the guitars and bass, and Santos-Ramos on vocals. In 2008, they released their first demo, which helped to establish their presence in the metal scene.[4]

Debut Album and Growing Popularity (2011-2012)

edit

In 2010, Feared released their self-titled album, followed by their first official album "Rejects" in 2011. The album featured Mario Santos-Ramos on vocals and Ola Englund on guitars. Their unique blend of heavy and technical metal quickly gained them a dedicated following.

The following year, they released "Refeared," which included contributions from renowned drummer Kevin Talley. This album further solidified their reputation in the metal community.[4]

Continued Evolution and Critical Acclaim (2013-2017)

edit

2013 saw the release of "Furor Incarnatus," featuring the core lineup of Mario Santos-Ramos (vocals), Ola Englund (guitars), Kevin Talley (drums), and Jocke Skog (bass). This album marked a significant point in their career, showcasing their technical abilities and depth of sound. Before this, they released the single "Possessed", adding to their growing repertoire.

In 2014, Feared participated in the split album "Elemental Nightmares - II", further expanding their presence in the metal scene.

In 2015, they released "Synder," followed by "Reborn" in 2016, and "Svart" in 2017. Each album demonstrated their evolving sound and ability to push the boundaries of metal.[4]

Return with "Song of the Dead" (2024)

edit

After a seven-year hiatus, Feared made a powerful comeback with their new single "Song of the Dead" in 2024. The track marks the band's first release since their 2017 album "Svart". Ola Englund, who had taken time away from his popular YouTube channel, expressed that the band's return was a long time coming.

“We’re finally after a lot of years ready to continue the journey of the band Feared, and we’re going back to basics in the style of how Mario and I wrote songs in the beginning. I don’t know why it took this long for us to get something out, but maybe we were waiting for the right song. Me and Mario have already worked out at least 6 more songs so expect more in the future. As for now, we just wanted to release something to keep it alive. 7 years is too long of a wait…”

Produced by Jocke Skog, "Song of the Dead" is an intense, in-your-face death metal track that showcases Englund's powerful guitar tones and Ramos' robust vocals. This release signals the band's renewed commitment to creating music and hints at more new material in the near future.[5][6]
