Early Life

Emiway Bantai was born Bilal Shaikh in Antop Hill, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He attended Lakshdham High School in Gokuldham, Maharashtra but left school after failing the 12th standard to pursue his passion for music. His stage name is derived from the combination of "Emi" from Eminem and "Way" from Lil Wayne, two of his major influences, with "Bantai" meaning "brother" in Mumbai slang.

Career

Emiway started his music career in 2013 with his debut single "Glint Lock," featuring rapper Minta. However, his early works did not gain much attention. Following his father's advice to rap in Hindi to connect better with the local audience, he released "Aur Bantai" in 2014, which became an instant hit and won the People’s Choice Award.^[1]
