Emil Pieniniemi (born March 02, 2005) is a Finnish junior ice hockey defenseman for Oulun Kärpät of the Liiga. He was drafted 91st overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.[1]
Playing career
editPieniniemi played for Kärpät in the U20 SM-sarja in 2022-23 for 31 games, finishing with 1 goal and 13 points. He made his debut in the Liiga for Kärpät during the 2023–24 season.
On July 14, 2023, Pieniniemi signed a 3-year, entry-level contract with the Penguins.[2]
International Play
editPieniniemi played in the 2023 IIHF World U18 Championships for Finland men's national U18 team, scoring 1 point in 5 games. He was also named the team's best player during their match-up against Slovakia in the quarter-finals.[3]
