This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Diego Lobato (c. 1538-1610)[1] was a mestizo composer and chapelmaster in the Inca Empire. He is known for fusing European styles and techniques with Andean music.
Life
editLittle is known about Lobato's life. In 1550, Franciscan monks founded the Colegio de San Andrés in Quito to teach the European techniques of polyphony and Gregorian chant to the sons of Native American chiefs.[1] Lobato was taught in the Colegio de San Andrés.
In 1574, Lobato became chapelmaster of the Quito Cathedral, writing motets and hymns, now lost.[2] He served this post until 1588.
