Christie Jourdain is the snare drummer and bandleader of the Original Pinettes Brass Band, New Orleans' first all-female brass band.
Personal Life
editJourdain grew up in New Orleans East, Louisiana. Her oldest sister, uncle, and aunts all participated in the choir during their high school years. Even her parents, who grew up in the Treme area, were actively involved in the music scene, her mother being a singer in the choir. Jourdain's love for music blossomed in high school, where she honed her skills as a drummer in the marching band.
Original Pinettes Brass Band
editJourdain joined the Pinettes Brass Band when the band was founded in 1991 at St. Mary's Academy under the mentorship of Jeffery Herbert of the Original Pinstripe Brass Band.
After Hurricane Katrina, many of the Pinettes Band members dispersed, leaving Jourdain and tuba player Janine Waters to lead the band.[1] Jourdain majored in music business and graduated in 2023 with an Associate of Applied Science degree.[2] In 2023, Jourdain was selected by the New Orleans Jazz Museum to represent New Orleans in Paris as a cultural ambassador as part of the Festival Jazz Nouvelle-Orléans à la Goutte-d'Or.[3]
