Draft:Callum Hiddleston

  • Comment: Please note that Wikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view. Phrases such as "progress[ing] right the way through", "he would play a pivotal role", "His impressive performances" or "owing to strength" transport an extremely positive point of view an must always be attributable to high-quality reliable, secondary sources. Now, looking at the references, I would argue that this draft is largely based on Sheffield United F.C. press releases, however, most of the positive criticism is not depicted in that (i.e. Shefflied United F.C.) source which makes me believe that it is made up. Career

edit

Sheffield United

edit

Hiddleston joined Sheffield United at the age of 8 and progressed through the academy system; eventually signing a professional contract in May 2022.[1].

Hiddleston made his U18s debut on 13th November 2020 in a defeat at local rivals Barnsley where he was stretchered off injured after a collision during the first half of the game[2].

In the following campaign, he would play a key role as the Blades were crowned as National Champions in the U18s Professional Development League and went through the entire season unbeaten[3]. Hiddleston captained the team on a frequent basis and also earned a reputation for his penalty saving exploits - making three saves in one FA Youth Cup game against Millwall[4], saving another in the next round against Everton[5], in addition to one in the U18s Steel City Derby against Sheffield Wednesday[6].

Hiddleston would go on to represent Sheffield United at U21s level several times throughout the 2022-23 season as the Blades were crowned Professional Development League (North) champions[7]. On his final appearance for the U21s, he saved another penalty in a 3-3 draw with Wigan Athletic[8].

On 7th June 2023, it was confirmed that Hiddleston had been released after spending 11 years at the club[9]

Loans

edit

Sheffield FC, Guiseley, Grantham Town and Ilkeston Town.

edit

Aged 18, Hiddleston gained his first taste of senior football when he played for Sheffield FC in an away fixture at Marske United on Saturday 6th November 2021.[10]

The following season, he gained further experience on loan. This time playing in the Northern Premier League (Premier Division) for Guiseley[11], followed by a short stint at Grantham Town[12], before he went on to play for Ilkeston Town in the Southern Football League (Midland Division).

Ossett United

edit

On 6th February 2024, Hiddleston joined Ossett United for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign.

He made his debut for the Sheepicorns that night in a West Riding County Cup tie against former club Guiseley, saving a penalty as Ossett were eventually beaten on penalties[13], and went on to make a total of 14 appearances as Ossett were eventually successful in their quest to avoid relegation.

Hiddleston earned praise for his performances with manager David Brown declaring that Hiddleston 'would go on to play in the Football League one day' after a vital save in the final few minutes of a game away at Bridlington Town helped Ossett achieve a crucial three points[14].

On 23rd April, Hiddleston saved a penalty and was named 'Man Of The Match' after Ossett defied the odds and won 1-0 at eventual league champions Hebburn Town to mathematically confirm their safety[15].

Hyde United

edit

On 15th June 2024, it was announced that Hiddleston had joined Northern Premier League (Premier Division) side Hyde United with the club acknowledging he'd 'impressed a lot of observers which persuaded the Tigers to make a move for his signature' upon announcing his arrival.[16]

International Career

In 2021, Hiddleston was selected to represent Scotland - for whom he qualifies through his grandparents - at a week-long training camp in Largs.
