Calico Corner, also known as Nottingham or Nottingham Village is neighborhood located in the city of Bensalem, Pennsylvania.
History
editThe original 650 Nottingham houses were built in the mid to early 1950's by by Phillip and Nathan Seltzer builders..[1] Most of these homes were constucted as 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom ranchers that were approximately 936 square feet in size. Today, a lot of the homes in the neighborhood have additions.
Geography
editOne side of the neighborhood exits to Street Road (132) in Bensalem. The other side of the neighborhood exits out to Philadelphia near Roosevelt Blvd. Nottingham is walking distance from Parx Casino. Nottingham Village has a population of about 3,500[2] and offers residents and Urban-Suburban Mix feel.
Schools
editThe neighborhood's local elementary school is Samuel K. Faust Elementary. 9% of the students are ranked proficient in math compared to the national average of 36%[3]. 1.5% of the students are considered "gifted". The school is ranked at the #18th most diverse public school in Pennsylvania. 72% of the students at Faust receive Free or Reduced lunch[4]
After graduation from Faust, students will move on to Robert K. Shafer Middle School for grades seven and eight before, moving on to Bensalem High School.
