  • Comment: Need more sources about the statue. Paul Vaurie (talk) 21:36, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Comment: Tempted to accept this one, but the sources are more focused on Bardot's time in Buzios, and not on the statue itself. The article had two sources from TripAdvisor and Google Maps, which would not be considered reliable sources because they are user-generated content. Bkissin (talk) 23:31, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

A bronze statue of French actress Brigitte Bardot is located on the Orla Bardot Buzios, one of the main roads in the town of Armação dos Búzios, Brazil. It was created by artist Christina Motta for the Brazilian government in 1999 to commemorate Bardot's trip to the town.[1]

History edit

In 1964, during Brigitte Bardot's vacation in Rio, she was relentlessly pursued by the media from various countries, including Brazil. The Brazilian government even deployed the army to maintain order. To evade the press, Bardot opted to settle in Buzios, which had a sparse population at that time.[2]As word got out that Bardot was vacationing in Búzios, the media spotlight immediately turned toward the small village. Photographs of Bardot strolling along the beaches, mingling with locals, and enjoying the serene landscape were soon published in newspapers and magazines around the globe. Almost overnight, Búzios became synonymous with glamour, beauty, and the bohemian lifestyle. The aftermath of Bardot's visit was transformative for Búzios. Investors and developers flocked to the area, leading to the establishment of hotels, restaurants, and shops. The town became a preferred holiday destination for both Brazilian and international tourists. Wandering along the cobblestoned streets, it is obvious just how strong Bardot's influence was on the town. In her honor, the municipality of Búzios commissioned local artist Christina Motta to create a statue of her that sits on the Orla Bardot. Yes, that's right even the oceanfront promenade is named after the actress, as is the local cinema. While Búzios has grown and evolved over the years, the“Bardot effect”remains an integral part of its fascinating history, proving that sometimes all it takes to transform a place is a touch of stardom.[3][4]
