Brian K. Stimmler is an American diplomat who is the nominee to serve as the United States ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.
Education
editStimmler earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and a Doctor of Philosophy from Princeton University.[1]
Career
editStimmler is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Counselor. Previously, he served as deputy chief of mission of the U.S. embassy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Earlier, he led public affairs sections as counselor for public affairs at the U.S. embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria and public affairs officer at the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Stimmler's other assignments include service as press attaché at the U.S. embassy in Belgrade, Serbia; political officer at the Office of the High Representative in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina; and assignments in Tokyo and Washington, D.C. He serves as the director of the Office of Central Asian Affairs in the State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.[1]
On June 13, 2024, President Joe Biden nominated Stimmler to be the next United States ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.[1] On June 18, 2024, his nomination was sent to the Senate.[2] His nomination is pending before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.[3]
