Bess Koffman is a paleoclimatologist and geochemist employed as an Associate Professor of Geology at Colby College. Koffman graduated with her PhD from the University of Maine Orono in 2013 after completing a thesis reconstructing atmospheric dust deposition over the past two millennia in West Antarctica[1]. She specializes in the impact of dust and volcanic ash on the marine environment [2][3][4] and reconstructing the atmospheric circulation of paleoclimate[5][6][7]. She has over 20 publications with more than 800 citations[8]. She is an expert with the US Ice Drilling Program[9] where she has helped close the gender gap in ice core research[10].
