Draft:Baillieston Street Name Origins

For decades the residents of Baillieston have puzzled at the origin of its street names old and present. This project was undertaken by myself and the late Robert Murray a local historian back in 2000 and took us 2 years to complete, however with the passage of time and websites closing most of this history vanished. I still kept this historical data and have decided to get it back out there before it is gone forever. The work is divided into the various areas in the Baillieston area including Garrowhill, Burntbroom, Crosshill, Broomhouse, Swinton, Barrachnie.

BAILLIESTON NORTH: MAIN STREET Very common name for a connecting street. They were usually wide for market stalls, like the wide section at Baillieston Cross. MARTIN CRESCENT: Councillor. Jimmy Martin. ROBERTSON TERRACE: Councillor. John Robertson DOLAN STREET: Councillor James Dolan (RM) Others believe Mayor of Glasgow Sir Patrick Dollan who was born in Baillieston and was also a Baillieston Councillor.
