Bahnuna was a small Kurdish village situated in the valley of mount shabani just north of the town of Batifa and is currently left abandoned.

Bahnuna used to be home to leading members of the Gulli tribe and was a central hub for rule and governance of local villages.

It is believed Bahnuna may have been the location that Zembîlfroş resided in the famous poem written by Feqiyê Teyran

During the late 1980’s Bahnuna was subject to a large chemical bombing attack by Saddam Hussein and the Baathist Iraqi government and part of the wider Anfal campaign leaving the village in ruins and uninhabitable with the majority of it’s population migrating to the close town of Batifa.
