In July 2023, Nickelodeon and Republic Records announced that they will be releasing the soundtrack for the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008), featuring an expanded score by series composer Jeremy Zuckerman.[1] In October 2023, Nickelodeon and GEA Live announced Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert, an ongoing concert tour featuring Zuckerman's expanded score.[2] The tour was initially announced for four dates and locations in the UK, US, and France.[2] Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert premiered in London, England on January 21, 2024 and was attended series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.[2][3] That same month, it was announced that the concert series would expand into a 100-city world tour, covering locations in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific beginning in September 2024.[4][5]

The concert runs for over two hours and the music is performed by an orchestral ensemble, while several moments from the series are displayed on a large screen.[2] Zuckerman, in assistance with DiMartino, Konietzko, and original editor Jeff Adams expanded the series' score and compositions for the concert.[4] The concert is produced by Nickelodeon, GEA Live, and Senbla.[6]

Reception

Joanna Magill of Radio Times rated gave the concert a 4 out 5 star rating. While she directed some criticism to the audio mixing, she largely felt that it was a "flawless production".[7] Jack Periccos of Music-News.com gave it a 5 out of 5 star rating. He called the concert a "mesmerising symphony of nostalgia and a testament to the enduring impact of this beloved series".[3] Kieran Hurwood of The Beaver gave the concert a 4.5 out of 5 rating. They praised the use of light and integrated visuals to enhance the concert experience, but directed some criticism at the non-chronological order of the series's events presented on the screen.[8]
