The Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) is an office under the Higher Education cluster[1] of the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. The office provides robust support for ideation, protection, and commercialization of innovations.[2]

AIPO is composed of three groups with respective duties that maximize the support and protection that will be mainly provided to members of Ateneo de Manila University’s intellectual properties. These three groups are the Ideation Support Group (ISG),[3] Protection and Education Group (PEG),[4] and Commercialization and Business Incubation Group (CBIG).[5]

AIPO was established to support and protect intellectual property generated by the Ateneo de Manila University’s faculty, researchers, and students. It provides services such as patent search and drafting, freedom to operate analyses, and intellectual property management.

Milestones

edit

AIPO has organized various events and achieved significant milestones such as receiving its 3rd Platinum Award from IPOPHL,[6] and launching the Ateneo Blue Nest on July 26 at the Areté Sandbox, providing top-tier business growth opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs.[7] Other notable events include the Project SET Demo Day, which recognized the next generation of frontier leaders in the Philippines,[8] and the participation of a BS ABME student in the Scholar's Entrepreneurship Training (SET) Finals by DOST-SEI[9].

Supported Start-Ups

edit

AIPO has supported several notable startups, helping them to grow and achieve success. These include Ateneo’s alumni-led SolX, which became the first NDC Government Equity backed tech startup[10], and the Pili Seal patent[11], which aims to secure a sustainable future. Other notable startups supported by AIPO include those offering AI tools to reduce electricity costs, providing keychain solutions to STEM education problems, and health tech innovations like Vitalradar[12].

Partnerships

edit

AIPO has formed numerous strategic partnerships to enhance its mission. Noteworthy collaborations include partnerships with AGENIX Digital[13], which involved a SaaS SEO Masterclass[14], and Leave a Nest[15], aimed at supporting research and entrepreneurial development. AIPO also partnered with the University Partner for TECH PLANTER in the Philippines 2023[16][17], and collaborated with UP ISSI to support a Filipino inventor's quest for clean water[18]. Further, AIPO played a crucial role in the Alfredo M. Yao Intellectual Property Awards 2023[19], co-organized the StartUp QC incubator program[20], and collaborated with ADI to drive AI solutions[21]. In addition, AIPO was a key stakeholder in various events and initiatives, such as the Ignite Event for Peak Performance and Peak Living in 2024[22], and partnered with DOST to launch a Technology Business Incubator Project[23].
