Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović (Born 27 September 1985) is a Croatian-American writer, director, and producer born in Dubrovnik and currently based in New York City. [1] She grew up doing theater in Croatia, which led her to pursue a Master’s degree in Producing from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. She then moved to New York, where she began producing as well as directing before earning her MFA in Screenwriting and Directing from Columbia University in 2017. Kusijanović has since released multiple films, the most notable of which is Murina, her directorial feature debut.[2]
Murina Release & Critical Acclaim edit
Murina is a coming-of-age tale set on the Adriatic Coast starring Gracija Filipović, Leon Lučev, Danica Curcic, and Cliff Curtis. Martin Scorsese executive produced the film under his Sikelia Productions banner.[3] Murina premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival where it received the Caméra d’Or Award, an honor presented to the best first feature film at the festival.[4] Following its American release in 2022, Murina garnered critical acclaim as one of the top films of the year by multiple outlets including The Hollywood Reporter, Associated Press, and Vogue.[5][6][7]
Murina was nominated for three Film Independent Spirit Awards: Best First Feature, Best Breakthrough Performer, and Best Cinematography.[8]
