Anna Joan Calvert-Tanaka (born 8 October 1989), known professionally as Ana Tanaka, is an English model, entrepreneur, stylist, and actress.

Early life

edit

Tanaka was born in Bolton, Greater Manchester[1][2] to English mother Debbie and Japanese father Ben and grew up in Sharples. She attended Thornleigh Salesian College.[3]

Career

edit

Tanaka was 15 when she started modeling. She auditioned for The X Factor in 2006, but was turned down for being too young. She had her first online boutique Alter Ego in 2012 with three of her friends.[4]

2014 Graduate Fashion Week [5]

Tanaka co-founded the fashion marketplace Wekoko in Clapham with fellow Bolton-born model Lloyd Nwagboso.[6][7][8] She had self-styled Galore and C-Head features with Cassyette and Rio Fredrika.[9][10] This was followed by Femme Cre8tive with Fredrika and Nancy Gomez.

Tanaka starred opposite Japanese actor Shogen in the 2018 independent drama film Stay.[11]

Tanaka and Fredrika joined the homelessness awareness campaign A Deed A Day with Lucien Laviscount and Zac Lichman. For Christmas 2018, the group ran a soup kitchen out of Laviscount and Lichman's The Shop NW10.[12][13]

Tanaka worked as a creative director on the music videos for English singer Sinéad Harnett's 2021 singles "Last Love"[14] and "Distraction",[15] as well as Harnett's cover of Aaliyah's "At Your Best".[16] She has also styled the likes of Leah Lewis for red carpet events.[17]
