Albert Dyrlund Jensen, known as Albert Dyrlund, (born 10 October 1998, Helsingør, North Zealand, Denmark; death 28 July 2021 Val Gardena, Italy[1][2]) was a Danish singer, songwriter, musician, film actor, cartoon dub/voice actor, actor and YouTuber in vlogs, music, sketches and comic. In 2014, Albert Dyrlund and 10 other YouTubers helped start the activities of the Nordic YouTube advertising company Splay up in Denmark.[3]
In 2018, Regner Grasten Film produced a autofictional film, Team Albert, with Dyrlund in the lead role.[4] From the film's premiere on 4 October 2018 and three weeks later it sold 53,190 tickets, despite film producer Regner Grasten's ambition to sell as many tickets as the audience success Anja og Victor from 1999, which sold 300,000 tickets in the first three weeks.[5] In addition, Albert Dyrlund has added voice to animated films, including The Emoji Film from 2017.[6]
The 28 July 2021 Dyrlund died in a crash from a 200 meter high cliff in Italy in connection with a video recording.[7]
Growing up
editAlbert Dyrlund went to the small school in Helsingør and went to the scouts in Helsingør. He went to Stubbekøbing Efterskole in Stubbekøbing.[8][9] and he attended Helsingør Gymnasium in Helsingør.[10]
YouTube
editAlbert Dyrlund started on YouTube with his friend Anton Cornelius in 2012 with the channel Novopleco drengene. The channel changed its name to Novopleco. [11] In 2014 Novopleco also became part of Splay. On 5 June 2016, Dyrlund started making his own videos, primarily vlogs and sketches, on his own channel, Albert Dyrlund. The channel has over 175,000 subscribers in August 2021.[12]
In 2019, he created an English-language channel, Albert Soap, primarily featuring sketches and vlogs. In August 2021, the channel has over 126,000 subscribers.[13]
In January 2020, he was featured by the world-famous English YouTuber KSI who responded to his video of him playing KSI's song in front of American Logan Paul's house. Dyrlund's video got 1.8 million views,[14] and KSI's video got 5.5 million views.[15]
Media Stunt
editIn 2019, Albert Dyrlund released the song "Waffler" together with Sidney Lee and Jesu Brødre. In the music video, Dyrlund behaved psychotically and had changed appearance. It also followed in a series of postings on social media. According to several media outlets, several of Dyrlund's viewers and their mothers were frightened by Albert Dyrlund's performance, and people speculated whether Dyrlund was on drugs or had gone insane. He ended up partially withdrawing the video in June 2019.[16]
More than one year later, in November 2020, Dyrlund explains in a video that he did it because it dawned on him how young his viewers were. He said he just wanted people who were older to see his videos so he could go out and play in clubs and at the Roskilde Festival. Dyrlund chose to play insane to maximize publicity. He then did that in Waffler and in Instagram posts where he, among other things, kissed with Fie Laursen, and where he picked up dog shit with his hand. According to Albert Dyrlund himself, it worked when people thought he had gone insane, and "I stand by that" he said in a video on YouTube.[17]
Albert Dyrlund never went back to his old content on his Danish channel, but chose after the media stunt to create his English channel, Albert Soap. However, he managed to release 3 songs, Marabou, Drik Ud and SUMMER on the Danish channel after the media stunt.[12] Albert Dyrlund died just over a month after releasing his latest song, SUMMER.[7]
Death
edit28 July 2021 Albert Dyrlund was hiking with some friends - a Dane and two Americans - on the route Forcella Pana, approximately 50 kilometers east of Bolzano in northern Italy .
According to Dyrlund's American friend and YouTuber Tucker Doss, the accident occurred when the group wanted to see the landscape away from the tourist areas one afternoon. The group spread out to record videos separately, and Doss was approximately 60 meters from Dyrlund. Dyrlund sat on a patch of soft grass close to the slope and recorded himself with a camera mounted on a tripod. Suddenly, Dyrlund slips uncontrollably and calls Doss, who turns and sees him falling over the cliff. Doss was shocked by the accident and called the emergency services immediately after the accident, who - according to Doss - appeared after 10 minutes with a rescue helicopter.[18]
Dyrlund fell 200 meters down the mountain and died on the spot.[7][19] Due to dense fog, the rescue helicopter had difficulty locating Dyrlund, but when he was finally found, he was pronounced dead on the spot by a doctor and mountain rescuer.
His body was flown to a nearby hospital.[20]
Dyrlund's sudden death became a reported story in the Danish media, and several well-known Danes offered their condolences in the wake of the news of the death, including Johnni Gade[21], Julia Sofia[2], Anders Hemmingsen[22], Faustix[23] and film producer Regner Grasten.[24]
Dyrlund's death was also discussed internationally. The 5th. August]] 2021 the world-famous English YouTuber KSI uploaded a video on his channel where he condoled the death and shared old videos of Dyrlund with his viewers.[25]
Albert Dyrlund was buried at Egebæksvang Church in Egebæksvang Parish in Espergærde 17 August 2021.[26][27]
