Akobo is a residential area situated in the Lagelu Local Government of Oyo State [1], Nigeria. The area spans from the General Gas Flyover[2] to the end of Olorunda-Aba.[3]While Akobo falls entirely under Lagelu Local Government Area, specific areas, including Olorunda, Elewuro, Idi Ape, Ajara, Onikokoro, Eniosa, Yawiri, Elega, Papa, Tela, Olukotun, Idi Orogbo, Ayeye, Olode, and Kute, are under of the Lagelu West Local Council Development Authority[4].Residents of Akobo are mostly Yoruba people and individuals from other ethnic groups.

Abake Estate (Now Bashorun Estate) edit
Abake Estate was established by Chief Adebayo Adetunji, also known as Adetunji Onisiga. He initiated this housing project after the Nigerian federal government pledged to provide basic infrastructure in exchange for the construction of 50 houses. However, when the government failed to fulfill its commitment, Chief Adetunji sought external support, eventually connecting with a senior Air Force officer. He proposed the establishment of an Air Force barracks in Ibadan, leveraging the existing infrastructure. The property was eventually sold to the government, and Chief Adetunji fulfilled his vow to refund the excess funds paid.[7]
Olorunda Abaa edit
Olorunda-Abaa is located within the geographical coordinates of 3° 58' E - 3° 59' 51.0' E and 7° 28' 24.0' N - 7° 29' 46.9' N. It covers an area of approximately 4.0 square kilometers and features a gently undulating terrain with elevations ranging from 213 meters to 259 meters above mean sea level. The area can be accessed via tarred roads, untarred roads, and footpaths. It is characterized by a tropical climate with a dry season from November to March and a wet season from April to October. The vegetation is tropical rain forest, and the annual rainfall ranges between 1500 mm and 2000 mm, with a mean temperature between 22 °C and 33 °C.[8]
Yawiri edit
Yawiri is a community located in the Akobo-Ojurin area of Oyo State. Initially, it had a moderate population, but it has undergone significant population growth, mainly due to an influx of workers from various private and public institutions in Ibadan. The government has invested in development projects in Yawiri, including road[7]infrastructure, electricity, and real estate development, contributing to the area's increasing population.
Akobo-Ojurin edit
Also referred to as Ojurin, Akobo-Ojurin derived its name from the railway line that passes through the area. The name literally translates to the settlement that clusters around the railway at Akobo area. [9] The area emerged as a result of the expansion of Ibadan's territory.
Oke 'Badan Estate (Akala Estate) edit
Oke 'Badan Estate, commonly known as Akala Estate, is a residential community within Akobo. The name "Akala Estate" is attributed to the former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao Akala, who commissioned a road connecting Akobo to Wofun, naming it "Alao Akala Way." [10]
