Biography edit

Aabanoos Iman Roopnarine Alexander was born the first of three on June 19th, 1989 in East Flatbush Brooklyn to Caribbean parents, Former United States Marine, Andrew Alexander of San Fernando, Trinidad and Fine Artist, Maxine Hamilton of  St. Elizabeth,  Jamaica.

In 1994, Aabanoos was enrolled into primary school at PS 198 in Flatbush, Brooklyn where she received her basic education in addition to professional fine arts training at the age four years old under the stewardship of the late Rebbetzin Feiga Burnstein

In her elementary stage, Aabanoos studied Architecture, Painting and Sculpture at local institutions such as the Smithsonian, The Brooklyn Museum of Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In response to her study, the budding artist demonstrated exceeding advanced skills in the application of papier-maîché, paper-cutting and most uniquely, monogramming.

In 1995 during instruction, Aabanoos selected her medium of design after the implementation of a class project to recreate an  Awakened Lion  costume in celebration of Chinese New Year.

In 1996 to 1997, as the designer continued independent study, she was selected to participate in formal ballet training at Ballet Tech in Flatiron, Manhattan.

Shortly after, her family moved to Canarsie, Brooklyn to establish a real estate company and she would be enrolled at the Lenox Academy - where she began to demonstrate entrepreneurial skills, repurposing and selling hats to her classmates.

This venture would continue into her high school career as an advanced placement student in mathematics and science at Middle College High School at Medgar Ever College.

In 2005, during her junior year, Aabanoos would begin professional field education in garment construction and pattern making in New York City’s garment district after school under the stewardship of Violet Forrest, a friend of the family.

Following graduation, in 2007,  the designer enrolled in the New York City College of Technology where she would study Fashion Merchandising before dropping out after a semester only to return in 2017 to study Fashion Sales and Marketing.

Between this time, Aabanoos would establish her brand in 2009, while also beginning her sales career in fashion retail, consistently ranking #1-2 in sales for brands like Free People, Bloomingdales & All Saints, growing into advertising and media sales for IAC Media’s, Felix Advertising.

She would also volunteer for roles in production for Concept Korea for New York Fashion Week, engage in a brief apprenticeship with fashion photographer Christina Paik as well as receive brief industry mentorship from the late Virgil Abloh.
