2024 Pakistan political crises is the continuation of 2022-2023 Pakistan political unrest that was ignited by the ousting of former prime-minister Imran Khan through vote of no confidence in April 2022. Political uncertainty for the past two years have caused Pakistan significant economic loss marred by rising inflation, unemployment, declining middle class, expensive electricity and so fourth.
After the conclusion of 15th National Assembly on 15th August 2023, caretaker governments took oath on both national and provincial level. Elections were to be held under 90 days as per Constitution of Pakistan, however, it was not until 8th of February that finally elections took place in Pakistan. Subsequently, Khan was arrested and convicted for corruption and barred from politics for five years. In the run-up to the elections, a Supreme Court ruling stripped the PTI of their electoral symbol for failing to hold intra-party elections for years.
Political analyst were of view that elections could solve the never-ending political uncertainty. However, elections held on 8th of February opened a new pandora box of "Form-45 & Form-47". On election night, television broadcasts showed PTI-backed independent candidates leading in at least 127 national assembly seats, which hinted at a potential majority. However, the announcement of final results was abruptly halted. Subsequently, independent candidates ended up winning 103 general seats including 93 backed by the PTI, followed by 75 from the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) and 54 from the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
