On January 23, 2024, the United States launched a series of airstrikes on three facilities used by Iran-backed militias in Iraq.[1][2] The United States defence secretary, Lloyd Austin, announced the strikes in a statement the same day.[3] The strikes targeted several militia groups with connections to Iran, including Kataib Hezbollah.[2][4]
