Álvaro de Marichalar Sáenz de Tejada (born April 25, 1961 in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain) is a Spanish explorer, businessman and aristocrat. He holds several world sailing records, including the Guinness World Record for the only crossing of the Atlantic achieved on a jet ski [1].

Born in Pamplona, Navarra, in 1961, he was an aviation pilot and served in the Spanish Air Force for two years[2] , but a traffic accident forced him to abandon his vocation as a fighter pilot.[citation needed] He studied Business Administration in Florida[3] .

An entrepreneur in the real estate and telecommunications sector, in 1984 he created TeleSat a pioneering company in the sale of satellite dishes in Spain [4].. In 1986 he created another pioneering company in the commercialization of mobile telephony [citation needed]. Álvaro de Marichalar is also an Academician of the Royal Academy of the Sea.

In 30 years, he has carried out 39 maritime expeditions[5] all aboard jet ski type vessels.
