Àros na Mara, located in Iona, Cape Breton Island, is a planned marine science center to be established by Central Cape Breton Community Ventures Inc. – a not-for-profit Company that owns and operates the Port of Iona, located at the Barra Strait, on the Bras d’or Lake Biosphere. The project is in collaboration with Cape Breton University and other. The center aims to promote marine research, education, and tourism.[1]

Àros na Mara and the economic potential of the Bras d’or Lake Biosphere as a ecological resource hopes to assist in achieving strategic objectives as they relate to cross-cultural tourism, heritage, eco-tourism, ocean literacy, the sharing of marine learning, renewable energy options, and science interpretation.[1]

Fellowship Program

This program aims to provide students with hands-on experience in marine research, thereby augmenting their academic knowledge and potentially inspiring them to pursue careers in marine sciences.
