History

edit

It originated from DTEK Trading, being covered in Bloomberg, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Tages-Anzeiger and other media at least since 2014.[12][13][14] The company was founded in January 2019 by the DTEK holding[15] as a subsidiary for the supply of electricity, coal, and gas.[16][17] In July 2021, Vitaliy Butenko stepped down from his position as the CEO of D.Trading.[18] He was later replaced by Dmytro Malyar.[19]

In 2023, D.Trading began a phase of active international expansion and currently operates from four strategic offices in Kyiv, Amsterdam (Netherlands), Zug (Switzerland), and Zagreb (Croatia).[20] In January 2023, D.Trading started importing electricity from Europe to reduce the deficit in Ukraine's energy system, achieving a base capacity supply of 290 MW. During this period, the company accounted for approximately 97% of all electricity imports to the country.[21] In November, the company began trading "green" electricity, purchasing it from renewable energy producers.[22] In December, D.Trading started trading grain, making its first deal on the domestic market and sending one thousand tons to a client, as well as opening an agro-office in Odesa.[23][24][25]

In March 2024, D.Trading increased electricity imports from Europe to stabilize the situation in Ukraine's energy system, delivering over 73 million kWh of electricity.[3] The company provided nearly half of all electricity imports to the country, helping to reduce the electricity deficit.[26][27] In the same year, D.Trading was listed among the largest companies in Ukraine by revenue, ranking second with a revenue of 165.7 billion UAH.[28][1] In May 2024, the company increased electricity imports from Europe from 71.5 to 225 million kWh after Russian attacks. The company achieved a supply of 0.85 GW during peak hours, minimizing the risks of electricity consumption restrictions for consumers.[29] D.Trading and Venture Global (US) announced the execution of a comprehensive Heads of Agreement (HOA) for the supply of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine and Eastern Europe. The corresponding document was signed on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, taking place in Berlin on June 11–12, 2024.[30] D.Trading and Germany’s SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe GmbH) signed an agreement to strengthen Europe’s security by exploring potential projects promoting the continent’s energy independence at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin (June 11–12, 2024).[31][1]
