CrafterCMS is an open-source headless web content management system (CMS), founded in 2013 in Virginia, USA by Mike Vertal, Russ Danner and Sumer Jabri.[1] The name of the company is Crafter Software Corporation and the name of the platform is CrafterCMS. As of 2024, the company is headquartered in McLean, Virginia.[2]

History
editCrafter Software Corporation was originally founded in 2013 and released first version of CrafterCMS in 2014.[3][4] In 2019, Crafter partnered with Lighter Capital, receiving revenue-based debt investment. Later in March 2022, they closed on a second institutional round of funding from Lighter Capital.[5][6]
CrafterCMS version 4.0 was launched in June 2022, featuring an experience builder for composing digital experiences, a Crafter Studio Content Authoring Application, and a plug-in framework with an expanded marketplace.[7][8][9] In February 2024, CrafterCMS announced the expansion of its marketplace, which now includes over 60 plugins, including an AI-plugin that integrates ChatGPT from OpenAI to support content creation.[10][11][12]
CrafterCMS is distributed under an open-source license (GNU General Public License Version 3.0), making it freely available for anyone to use, modify, and distribute.[13]
