Renaming

edit

Following the Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_January_19#Category:Belarus_born_people, I suggest to discuss its renaming. Reason: The purpose of this category was to track identity of Belarusian people to the times when they were denied their langaguage and other cultural identity. This may be evidenced, eg during heated discussions of the nationality of Adam Mickiewicz I would suggest something like Category:People born in Belarusian lands or something. I suggest renaming the category to People born in modern-day Belarus. But it should definitely be kept on Wikipedia.--Boguslav (talk) 02:20, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
The point is that the category is not about modern-day Belarus. `'Míkka>t 04:59, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think People born in Belarus is fine, Belarus is a territory and its history doesn't make the current territory any less valid. If people born in Belarus whenever don't have the right to Belarussian citizenship I would be willing to change my mind, otherwsise keep as is or better change to my People born in Belarus suggestion (purely because it is better English). I am afraid you are underestimating deletionists and other formalists which will be beating hell our of you to insist that "Belarus means Belarus and in 18th century there was Poland and saying otherwise is nationalistic POV pushing" . `'Míkka>t 04:59, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
