Meaning of representative

Notice the category here Representative teams, and I think you misinterpret what respresentative means. Just because a team is called New South Wales does not make it a representative team. For example: the NRL team New Zealand Warriors is not a representative New Zealand team. Representative team means the team is selected from a pool of players who play in that area. A professional team who hires players from all over the country is not a representative team. The New South Wales Blues are a representative team, but the Warratahs are not (although prior to Super Rugby they were). Not sure how Netball operates, but if they have a pro team of players they are limited to in selection and can't replace on of their players with anyone playing at grade or club level anywhere in New South Wales if they so chose then they are not representative.

If the team can only select from list of contracted players and not from the entire region then they are not representative. This list, and presumably those for other states, probably needs to be trimmed some. --Falcadore (talk) 04:27, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
