Category talk:Liberal Party (UK) parliamentary candidates

Wording in explanation at start and inclusion in category

edit

I have changed the wording in the explanation from "This category is for current and former prospective parliamentary candidates for the British Liberal Party" to "This category is for former prospective parliamentary candidates for the British Liberal Party". My reasoning is that the Liberal Party officially ceased to exist in 1988 when it merged with the SDP to form the Liberal Democrats. Thus the old Liberal Party cannot have any current prospective parliamentary candidates (nor has it had any since the date of the merger). Although a new Liberal Party was set up by Michael Meadowcroft and others opposed to the merger in 1989, and has contested parliamentary elections, my understanding is that this party is a legally distinct entity. Thus it would be wrong for this category to include anyone who has stood for, or is planning to stand for, parliament under the label of the successor Liberal Party (ie the post 1989 Party).
