I read the guidelines. Am debating whether or not Tom Hanks and Troy Polamalu should be included. Is religion relevant to their "reliable, published sources?"

Depends on if crossing yourself and praying are established aspects of American football, and if The DaVinci Code was a religious film, I suppose.
