History

edit

BooksRun was founded in 2014 by Kiryl Zarubau.[2] The company initially focused on affordable textbooks for students and graduates.[3] The BooksRun website offered a range of used textbooks for sale and rent as well as free shipping.[4]

In 2016, the company also opened a small store near Brooklyn College to serve the student community in New York.[5]

Over the years, BooksRun has expanded its book inventory to both trade books and textbooks and transformed from a startup to a company that operates hundreds of thousands of titles daily.[6] BooksRun also launched its own book marketplace services in 2020, offering independent booksellers an opportunity to list and sell books through the BooksRun website.[7]

Business model

edit

BooksRun’s primary business model is B2C (business-to-consumer). The company sells and buys used and new books and textbooks (physical books and eBooks) and offers textbook rentals.[8] BooksRun also trades books through Amazon and eBay as well as other online marketplaces such as AbeBooks, Walmart, and others.[9]

Education and environmental support

edit

In 2018, BooksRun offered a $1,000 scholarship for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in US colleges. [10] The scholarship aimed to reduce the financial burden of college expenses.[10]

Since 2019, BooksRun has partnered with One Tree Planted, an organization that aims to help the environment by planting more trees and restoring forests.[11]
