At the end of the 1940s, Bofors received an order from the Royal Army Administration for an armoured artillery gun carriage with a 15.5 cm gun. Landsverk was commissioned to develop a prototype based on their previously designed KRV chassis. Landsverk's prototype was completed in the early 1960s, and was named Artillerikanonvogn 151. Landsverk's prototype is very different from the Bofors Tracked Gun 1, which is based on a modified chassis for the Stridsvagn 103.
