Aromal Chekavar (or Chekavan) was a warrior of the 16th century who is believed to have lived in the North Malabar region of what is now the state of Kerala in India. Born in the Puthooram Veedu tharavad, he is mentioned in Vadakkan Pattukal (oral folklore, also called Northern Ballads). His sister was Unniyarcha, another legendary warrior figure of the same ballads.[1]

The legend of Aromal has been made into films such as Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Aromalunni (1972), Thumbolarcha (1974), and Puthooramputhri Unniyarcha (2002).
