American Arcadia is a 2023 puzzle-platformer game developed by Out of the Blue and published by Raw Fury. The game follows Trevor Hills (Yuri Lowenthal) as he tries to escape his simulated hometown, Arcadia, with the help of stage technician Angela Solano (Krizia Bajos).

Gameplay and plot edit

American Arcadia is a 2.5D puzzle-platformer game that takes place during the 1970s.[1][2] At the beginning of the game, the player controls Trevor Hills.

The game presents the plot as a documentary.[3] Trevor Hills (Yuri Lowenthal) is a man who lives a normal life. After a few days, Trevor discovers that he is part of an internationally watched television show and that his friend, Gus, is presumed to be dead. He also discovers that if an inhabitant is not paid attention to, they are killed.[4]

American Arcadia is developed by Spanish indie studio Out of the Blue, which previously devloped Call of the Sea.[5][3][6]

Out of the Blue released a trailer in April 2022, and a demo was presented at the Tribeca Festival Games Spotlight.[6] On November 15, 2023, American Arcadia was released.[5]

Reception edit

American Arcadia received a "generally favorable" rating on Metacritic.[8] On OpenCritic, the game has a "strong" approval rating of 94%.[7]
