Produced by Jerry Ross and arranged by Joe Renzetti,[2] it sold over one million copies worldwide, earning a gold disc.[4] The track's title relates to the normal human body temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.[9] The personnel on "98.6" included Artie Butler on organ and piano, Vinnie Bell on guitar, Joe Macko on bass, and Bobby Gregg on drums. As well, a brass section of trumpets and trombones is featured. The song begins with a slow piano-drums introduction; the horn-section eventually joins before the beat changes to a faster shuffle.
