The 1836 Kentucky gubernatorial election was held on 1 August 1836 in order to elect the Governor of Kentucky. Whig nominee and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Kentucky's 3rd district James Clark defeated Democratic nominee Matthews Flournoy.[1]

On election day, 1 August 1836, Whig nominee James Clark won the election by a margin of 8,096 votes against his opponent Democratic nominee Matthews Flournoy, thereby gaining Whig control over the office of governor. Clark was sworn in as the 13th governor of Kentucky on 23 August 1836.[2]
