The 1777 Virginia gubernatorial election was scheduled to be held on May 29, 1777 during the American Revolutionary War. It was the second gubernatorial election of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The election was to be conducted in a joint session of the Virginia General Assembly; however, Patrick Henry was the only candidate nominated. By a joint resolution of the Senate and House of Delegates, balloting was dispensed with and Henry was declared re-elected by acclamation.[1]
