In 2006 Kornienko started a career as political counsellor during election campaigns with various forces and candidates.<ref name=LIGAbioOK/> During the [[2015 Ukrainian local elections]] he worked at the headquarters mayoral candidate of [[Mykolaiv]] [[Oleksandr Senkevych]] for the party [[Self Reliance (political party)|Self Reliance]].<ref name=LIGAbioOK/> Senkevych was elected Mayor.<ref>[http://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-politics/1914854-mayors-of-mykolayiv-ivano-frankivsk-become-known-after-elections.html Mayors of Mykolayiv, Ivano-Frankivsk become known after elections], [[Ukrinform]] (16 November 2015)</ref> Kornienko served as the national coordinator for [[Volodymyr Zelenskiy]]'s [[2019 Ukrainian presidential election|2019 presidential campaign]] and reprised this role for the party Servant of the People in the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary election.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://ukranews.com/en/news/633974-kornienko-heads-servant-of-the-people-electoral-hq|title=Kornienko Heads Servant Of The People Electoral HQ|work=[[Ukrainian News Agency]]|date=May 27, 2019|accessdate=August 23, 2019}}</ref> Kornienko was elected to the [[Verkhovna Rada]] (Ukraine's national parliament) in the [[2019 Ukrainian parliamentary election]] as number 7 on the candidate list of [[Servant of the People (political party)|Servant of the People]].<ref name="603784Some254MPs"/><ref name=LIGAbioOK/> On 10 November 2019 Kornienko was elected head of this party.<ref name="Kornienko45408"/>
