Locks up visual editor

1. turn on visual editor in preferences
2. try to edit a random article it locks up
3. turn off wikignome in common.js
4. try to edit a random article it works

(This is probably due to the VE edits in page, and Wikignome is trapping UI/UX stuff creating conflict. Obviously VE inside Wikignome is unrealistic, but if VE kicks off, it'd be good to disable Wikignome while editing.)

This is problematic. I was originally using the URL to figure out when to load Wikignome. When VE is loaded, the URL doesn't change and wgAction is still = "view". Sadly, it looks like detecting the state change and acting appropriately will be more difficult than expected. I'll keep hacking. --EpochFail^{(talk • work)} 19:21, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

 Done It looks like I don't need to disable wikignome when the VE is loaded. I just needed to not load an old version of jQuery with Wikignome and the problem disappeared. :) --EpochFail^{(talk • work)} 19:32, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Displays lead sentence as bold; thinks it's two sentences

Bolded first sentence

Confused WGG

At Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, WGG displays the lead sentence as bold (I know it's WGG 'cause when I get rid of it in my common.js it doesn't happen). It's as if the five quotes after the title are actually two quotes, leaving the bolding hanging until the end of the sentence. When I double-click to enter WGG, it shows the sentence as TWO sentences, one containing only '''''Mrs. (For some reason this does not happen at Racso and the Rats of NIMH, nor have I seen it elsewhere.) Hey Ignatzmice. I'm sorry that it took so long, but I've made some changes to the parser that should have cleared up this issues. Discussion

Doesn't seem to work for me

Hi there. I saw this on the Guild of Copy Editors talk page, and I am trying to use it without success. I copied the import script line to both my modern.js (which I am currently using) and common.js pages, but I'm not seeing anything change. The instructions "To edit a sentence, just double click on it. Alternatively, you can hold CTRL and right click on it to access the Wikignome menu." are a bit confusing. I'm not quite sure how I would double-click a sentence. Double-clicking highlights a word, and triple-clicking highlights an entire paragraph. I tried highlighting a sentence and right-clicking with Ctrl, and that didn't do anything either. I'm not sure if I'm missing something really obvious here, so any further explanation would be appreciated. Thanks! —Torchiest ^talk_edits 05:03, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Did you try bypassing your cache after you saved the script? I think about 99.9% of all Wikipedia-related maladies are solved that way – but of course 78% of all quoted statistics are also totally made up :D Accedie^{talk to me} 20:05, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I tried that multiple times on quite a few different pages. Can you explain how you double click a sentence? Or alternately, what should I be seeing if Wikignome is installed correctly? Is there any visible sign its installed? —Torchiest ^talk_edits 21:09, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Hmm, unfortunately that exhausts my technical knowledge. I'll wait for Aaron to answer this. It works fine for me – double-clicking on the text of any article (just a regular double-click) brings up a small editing menu. Minor edit?

Hey Aaron, I've been playing around with Wikignome and love it for copyediting, but I'm anal about marking minor edits as such. If I just add a comma to a sentence, I'd like to have the option of marking it as minor in the edit history. Is there a way you can add in that functionality somehow? I haven't updated the release version yet, but you can help me test the development version. Just add a variable for WIKIGNOME_TESTING before the import script (see below). Edit conflicts

You probably already know this, but when an edit conflict occurs, the gadget removes the other user's contribution. Imagine my embarrassment - making a grammatical correction and removing someone's +600 contribution in an edit marked "minor". :) I also have a suggestion for a feature - having the ability to highlight text. It could be useful for an article that has lots of small errors, where highlighting would make it easy to see what sections have already been fixed. Maybe even have several colors for highlighting. ʝunglejill 06:17, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Indeed this edit conflict issue is a problem as I've documented, but I should be able to fix it. As for highlighting, I'm not sure what you are hoping for. Yep, something like that. Not automatically highlighting edited sentences, but rather having a button to turn it on and off. I used WGG to edit a page that got completely messed up when a new editor added lots of info, where highlighting would've been useful. But it could probably wait until the tool is more stable, as it would be useful for editing a large portion of the article. Navigation popups

Hi - I just tried using this, and it's very promising. However, (for me at least), it disables navigation popups Mcewan (talk) 15:10, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Are popups disabled across the interface or in a specific location? I've got both Wikignome and nav popups (from preferences) running right now and both appear to function. I tested nav popups by going to the history page and hovering over usernames. I'm running Chrome in Ubuntu Linux. Chrome in Win 7. Just monitored a bit more carefully and what I see is that popups are fine on a page that cannot be edited (so the gadget does not "activate"), but disappear on a page that can be edited. In both cases the effect is subject to the loading delay (so on an editable page popups are fine immediately the page loads, but not after a second or two). I have some other gadgets (e.g Twinkle) loaded so there may be a more complicated interaction. Thanks Mcewan (talk) 16:25, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

(ec) I think I've figured it out. I see that popups get disabled on encyclopedia articles where wikignome loads. Through a little bit of hackery, I think I have solved the issue. Could you try my fix by loading the test environment?

Well it's different.

• Reload a page: popups intitaally disabled, re-appear after delay. (The reverse of previous behaviour).

• Ctrl+Right click to edit, then cancel. Popups disabled again. Seems a bit intermittent at this point, and possibly cache-related, i.e. previously-displayed popups continue to display, new ones, not so much.

Indeed. this is the best I can do without much pain. Every time that wikignome touches content, it reloads the content and this removes the popup from the "mouseover" event. In this configuration, popups should work most of the time, but not if you've touched the content. Is this acceptable? --EpochFail^(talk|work) 17:12, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Disable on redirects

Could this be disabled on redirects specifically? It prevents Capricorn from loading. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 15:01, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Deactives [show] in hatted discussions

But only in Wikipedia namespace. It allows the uncollapse script to work in article & user namespace. I had to deactivate the script to be able to uncollapse hatted discussions. ^Atsme _Talk 📧 18:38, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

@Atsme, I noticed this was also happening to the [show] link in the collapse bars on my userpage. We might want to ping @EpochFail to let them know this has been going on for a while now. I also noticed that it disabled all the installed/uninstalled links on the list of scripts, and they were also not functioning/visible until I removed this script.
