If anyone has any bright ideas on how to improve Marshal Foch Professor of French Literature during its Featured List candidacy, or any additional sources / information to add, please pitch in or let me know. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 01:57, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Boden Professor of Sanskrit

Members of this project might be interested in two new articles, Boden Professor of Sanskrit and Boden Professor of Sanskrit election, 1860. If anyone can suggest any further sources for, or improvements to, either article, I'd be grateful. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 09:55, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

If anyone can suggest improvements to the list of professors, now at WP:FLC, or the 1860 election article, now at WP:Peer review and heading for FAC in the nearish future, I'd be delighted. BencherliteTalk 08:48, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

JSTOR access for Oxford alumni

Those of you still at Oxford won't need this, but those of us who've left might want to get it - see here for details. BencherliteTalk 09:02, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Does anyone here have access to Oxford Scholarship Online?

This looks interesting and useful - anyone have access? BencherliteTalk 20:24, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

I can log in with my Oxford SSO acount but it doesn't seem to give much access. All rather unclear at the moment. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 21:52, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

First ever Oxford Wiki Meetup

You are all invited to the first ever Oxford Wiki Meetup which will take place at The Four Candles, 51 George Street, Oxford, OX1 2BE on Sunday 4 November 2012 from 1.00 pm.

I hope as many people as possible will be able to attend so that we can make this a regular event. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Oxford related topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you. Discussion on consolidating inactive and semi-active university WikiProjects

This project may be affected by a proposed consolidation of inactive and semi-active WikiProjects covering universities. The proposed consolidation is being discussed on the talk page of WikiProject Universities. We are seeking feedback from the projects that may be impacted before we decide on a course of action. Please drop by to participate in the discussion. Thanks! –Mabeenot (talk) 06:45, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

John Simpson & Michael Proffit

This message is being posted on behalf of Oxford University Press by whom I am employed. I am asking this WikipProject for help with this issue as I am mindful of not violating Wikipedia’s COI guidelines.

John Simpson , Chief Editor of the Oxford English Dictionary, will be retiring from his post in October 2013. This is verifiable via press release distributed this morning. We are hoping the fact that he is retiring can be included on his Wikipedia page.

As you'll see from the same press release, Michael Proffitt will be taking over as Chief Editor. As this is a position of note, and also for posterity, should an entry for Michael Proffitt be set up?

Many thanks Stephen 193.63.239.92 (talk) 11:05, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Part 1 done for now - to update in October. Profitt should indeed turn blue at some point. Johnbod (talk) 15:22, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Free JSTOR for alumni

Do all alumni know that you can get free JSTOR access via the alumni registration website? It was experimental for a year but is now extended indefinitely. Very handy indeed. Eat your heart out, Cambridge! Johnbod (talk) 15:22, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Women in Science Oxford Editathon: Ada Lovelace Day 2013

Hello all. Among the crop of upcoming Women in Science events is this one in Oxford, UK, happening with the support of the Bodleian libraries, some departments and units of Oxford University, and the Wikimedia UK/Jisc collaboration. As with similar events, both in-person and online participation are encouraged. This follows from an Ada Lovelace Day event last year which was very popular: see the event page for more details.

This is being posted to a few Wikiprojects, so apologies if you see it multiple times. MartinPoulter Jisc (talk) 14:52, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

It was great fun and in a short time there was a lot done and, it seems, some lasting enthusiasm created. Outcomes here. MartinPoulter Jisc (talk) 11:25, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Various Oxford student societies PRODed

See Wikipedia:WikiProject University of Oxford/Article alerts, in case it's not on your watchlist. I don't know whether any of them are worth trying to save but other people here may be able to find third-party references showing notability. BencherliteTalk 12:37, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

A tough job, I suspect. One might justify rolliing them all up into Student societies of Oxford University, otherwise they could be summarized in the main article. Johnbod (talk) 13:42, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. The Change Ringers are probably notable, but I'll have to dig out some historic references. Jonathan A Jones (talk) 17:37, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Navbox on category pages

The navbox {{University of Oxford}} appears at the top of several Oxford categories where it is an obstacle.[1] At most it should be hidden in that location with a visitor option to "show".

--P64 (talk) 23:41, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Personally, I don't think the navbox is particularly necessary in categories, but it adds another means of navigation and in some cases it's been there for at least six years without apparent problem. It can always be collapsed by using {{University of Oxford |state=collapsed}} if you prefer to have "show" rather than "hide" at the top. BencherliteTalk 23:51, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Notification: Featured Article Review for Stephen Hawking

There are some serious deficiencies which several users have identified in the Stephen Hawking article which was promoted to FA status earlier this year after an FAC that wasn't rigorous. Please feel free to comment and contribute to the debate at Wikipedia:Featured article review/Stephen Hawking/archive1 on whether this article should be delisted and what work needs to be done.--ColonelHenry (talk) 17:08, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:32, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Oxford Bodleian

Hi! Is it possible to get a scan of a rare work, held on Oxford Library: http://solo.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/primo_library/libweb/action/dlDisplay.do?vid=OXVU1&docId=oxfaleph015119309 I cannot get it anywhere else, so I hope you can help me, or you know anyone, who can help.

I need: "Assam Forest Records. Botany." Calcutta, India. vol. 1: part 5, t. 3. 1934 [July 1934] / There is an article about "Stercula khasiana" in it. I need a scan of this article and of the title pages and the imprint of this work. Thank you very much, -- Doc Taxon (talk) 17:44, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Iffley Road

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Iffley_Road_rugby_football_ground#Iffley_Road_rugby_football_ground

Having trouble with someone who has had this article deleted once and is trying to do it again. The article is being deleted as "an eminently non-notable football ground". It's the home ground of the Oxford University rugby union team and thus comes under this Wikiproject (among others). It has also hosted international rugby union matches in the past. (See Iffley_Road_rugby_football_ground]]. Please vote.GordyB (talk) 20:09, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Leaflet For Wikiproject University of Oxford At Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Thibaud of Etampes

Hello, I have made Thibaud of Etampes into an article because it was sitting in userspace for over 4 years. Can project members please help to cleanup and expand this Oxford-related article. Thank you. PNGWantok (talk) 00:01, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Dan Topolski

Hey Oxon. I was hoping one you have a photo of Dan Topolski that you'd be prepared to release to Wikipedia. I've seen dozens of "happy snaps" in various Oxon publications, it would be great if one of you could upload a picture of the legendary coach. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:49, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Failing that, does anyone have a contact at OUBC who might know where to look? BencherliteTalk 14:43, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.
