I think the article is important and notable but also very poorly named. I don't think it's within the scope of this project because it deals with a form of gaming that is beyond the current scope of this project. Vampyrecat (talk) 22:51, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Milestone Announcements

All WikiProjects are invited to have their "milestone-reached" announcements automatically placed onto Wikipedia's announcements page. WikiProject Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Peer review of live action role-playing games

Hey folks. I've put live action role-playing game up for peer review here, and would really appreciate any input. The page has come a long way (especially in terms of referencing), and it's one of the few roleplaying game articles we have at "Good Article" status. Some input on All Flesh Must Be Eaten please

Hi everyone. I would like to help with the All Flesh Must Be Eaten page. I've made a table on User:ZombieCow/AFMBE for the (released) books. However, I could use some input/advice:

• I removed the descriptions of the books (see next point). Some of the links pointed to a pyramid review, and those need registrations.
• Maybe I should put a description distilled from the official site (example: [1])? That site can be accessed by everyone. I've already done this for the zombie master screen. (Need to make it into a clean ref, will do that before I put it on the page)
• Any other ideas?

GM Magazine

I've discovered that I still have most of my copies of GM, which was an independent UK RPG magazine active between 1988 and 1990. I have made a list of my issues at the video games wikiproject. Currently I have only noted their CRPG reviews, but if you want a source for a RPG system, module, PBM or LARP published in this time period, let me know. Proposed deletion of Realms of Wonder (LARP)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Realms of Wonder (LARP), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

Paranoia resources and cleanup

I'm in the process of adding a whole bunch of data and improvements to Paranoia. In trying to add more citeable/cited sources, I'm looking for (digital) copies of one or more of these magazines, namely the reviews of 1st edition printed in them, all from 1985:

• Different Worlds #39
• Space Gamer V1, #72
• White Dwarf #65

Also redoing the book list, anyone who can fill in holes I left in the tables please do. Would be great if this effort pushes the article from B to A or GA. EllePollack (talk) 04:15, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Layout?

From the perspective of someone who just found WikiProject Role-playing games, the layout of this page is a bit odd. While I agree that the participants and sympathizers of this project deserves all the credit they can get, it strikes me as odd that you have to scroll through a looo-oooong list of online names before you find the Goals of the project... I agree it makes it a bit clunky to browse the page. I changed the "sympathizers" section to be in columnar format, so it doesn't take up so much vertical space. I'm not sure what to do about the actual participants section... Haqui11a (talk) 13:34, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Shadowrun external links

Hey. Can some people take a jaunt over to the Talk:Shadowrun page and let us know what you think about an external link. Basic story, the S-Run community site was removed in an EL purge some time ago when the site was gone. Now it has returned in a new guise and the people running the site want to add the external link back into the Shadowrun page. This was removed by several editors from the article as non-notable fansite and conflict of interest spamming. However now many people from the site have come over and are making arguments as to why it should be included. Myself and another couple of editors can't see how it meets the standards of the external links as it offers no encyclopaedic content in addition to the article, however it's getting out of hand with editors coming from S-Run itself. Long story short, can we get some more neutral eyes on the topic to see if some decision can be reached on this one. Don't mind the final outcome, but this single discussion now takes up the majority of the page and it getting nowhere. Canterbury Tail talk 12:00, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

"Role-playing" or "roleplaying"?

This has always been a question of mine about Wikipedia. Why do we use "role-playing" instead of "roleplaying"? "Role-playing" is, I think, and older term which is almost always shortened now to not use the hyphen. The most notable example being, of course, Dungeons & Dragons; the cover of it's 4th edition Player's Handbook says "Roleplaying Game Core Rules". However, this is not the only location; other than that, I see that most modern RPGs use "roleplaying" or a different term altogether (like the World of Darkness "storyteller" system). Why does Wikipedia still use the hyphen? –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 02:51, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

I was reading about hyphens the other month. The US, and maybe all English speaking countries, were moving towards not using the hyphen in stuff that's common. It isn't incorrect either way, though. (after ec) :Roleplaying (although it is inconsistent in the body text) and wikt:roleplaying would seem to be steps in the right direction. This has come up before too:

That being the case, Google the word. "Role-playing" returns 77 million hits, "Roleplaying" returns 4 million.  Ravenswing  03:55, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Google results are no good at telling the future of word usage (that being the case I made). Google results are also suspect here, since googling role-playing does not just match the hyphenated version, but also "role playing" and "roleplaying" -- googling this, for instance

• +"role-playing" -roleplaying -"role playing"

But Google isn't part of the "how to name articles" process, AFAIK. Either way, it would be nice if the article roleplaying was consistent with itself, even if it's not consistent across Wikipedia. -- JHunterJ (talk) 11:34, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Paul Jaquays DYK front page hook

Almost there with regards to getting that front-page DYK for the project but slight stumbling block on the nomination - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Did_you_know#Paul_Jaquays - in that the DYK validator doesn't "see anything about role-playing there" (point 1) when every reference is RPG related. Proposed changes to naming/content of Role-Playing Game and Tabletop Role-Playing Game

The article Role-playing game currently describes tabletop role-playing games, with other forms such as video RPGs and LARP described as varieties of tabletop game. This does not meet the WP:NAME policy, which requires the content of an article to unambigiously match the name and meet visitor expectations. Many users are surprised to find that Role-playing game specifically describes tabletop roleplaying, as can be seen from the recurring comments to this effect on the talk page

Please see my proposal at Talk:Role-playing game to change Role-playing game to describe roleplaying as a class of activity with varieties that include tabletop RPGs, video RPGs and LARP as varieties of that class of activity, and to create a new Tabletop role-playing game article to specifically describe the tabletop RPG variety. This naming structure will remove the current ambiguity that exists in regards to the role-playing game article, so that the new articles will be more likely to meet the expectations of visitors based on the names of the articles.

Please make your opinion heard either way on at Talk:Role-playing game so we can put this long-running point of contention to rest. Ryan Paddy (talk) 23:03, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

This discussion has resulted in the article role-playing game being split. The content relating to tabletop RPGs has been used to create a new article on that form of RPG at role-playing game (pen and paper). The article role-playing game now summarises the articles describing the various forms of RPG from tabletop to larp to digital. Other articles may need to be updated to reflect the new structure. Roleplay simulations + Project scope/name?

In conjunction with the above reworking of the base Role-playing game article, I've added a note that Roleplay simulations (as a /whole/ class) are currently outwith this project scope. This would appear to be the case at present, but needed mentioning one way or another for now as those were not referred to previously and can be discussed and/or clarified later as required. (I've also highlighted the existing text stating that Computer RPGs are a separate WP project -- and not sure, now, if /this/ project's own name is "representative" now that the base RPG article is being rescoped). One further query as to whether anything with reference to D&D should be automatically /excluded/ from this project as appears to be the case for some of the GAs previously. The likes of Dragonlance has hooks into the wider RPG domain beyond D&D - and even more so in terms of impact in change of RPG culture - so it was "easy" to add that back in on this project's scope, but I'm not at all sure at the /apparent/ "exclude D&D" remit; e.g. The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. Thoughts, please, since that's not made explicit either in the intro ("better organize information in articles related to role-playing games") or the scope section, following. I don't think it's a matter of excluding everything D&D from this wikiproject, as it is keeping out items which are just D&D related which have little or no impact on the rest of the RPG industry, such as Lost Caverns. Dragonlance is possible to consider for inclusion, because its impact on the industry is greater than most D&D subjects. Some subjects, such as Gary Gygax, are clearly important to RPGs beyond D&D, and thus already have the RPG Wikiproject banner. BOZ (talk) 12:46, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
