I have started a discussion on when he possibly entered the United States. I would like feedback on this and other information because I have been adding information, sources/references, etc on a subpage of mine concerning Vilyam Genrikhovich Fisher article. Author picture
I would like to add a picture to the article for Pat Frank, author of the Cold War classic Alas, Babylon. However, I am not seeing on on Commons and I am not sure about the fair use aspects of using the picture of the author from other sources.

Free World
The page Free World was nominated for deletion; consensus was to keep the article. But as was pointed out at AfD, the content needs pruning and clean-up. The main concept discussed is the US Cold War notion of the "Free World" as anti-communist states. However, the page includes discussion of other loosely-related or non-related conceptions of freedom, possibly in violation of WP:DICTIONARY. I am not sufficiently knowledgeable to undertake the clean-up myself (though I did merge content from Leader of the Free World after that page was also discussed for deletion). I hope members of this WikiProject might have a look at the page and undertake to improve it. Thanks, Cnilep (talk) 05:13, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
Syngman Rhee
I've been doing some work on the Syngman Rhee article - mostly grammatical/mechanical cleanup, but I've also been trying to make it sound a little more neutral. There are places, however, where I think the neutrality could still use significant improvement. I think part of the reason I'm having trouble with the neutrality of it is because there are "facts" in the article that I can't, in good faith, simply delete, but which need some references and outside sources to be substantiated. I've gone through the article and added CN tags, but I'm having a hard time finding references (I'll keep looking, of course). If someone could add some more references and inline citations to the article, I think it would be a drastic improvement. Thanks. Sleddog116 (talk) 22:19, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Belgian uranium for Sovjet Atomic Bomb Project?
hello,
I read in the item "Sovjet Atomic Bomb Project" :
The single largest problem during the early Soviet project was the procurement of uranium ore, as the USSR had no known domestic sources at the beginning of the project. The Soviet F-1 reactor, which began operation in December 1946, was fueled using uranium confiscated from the remains of the German atomic bomb project. This uranium had been mined in the Belgian Congo, and had fallen into the hands of the Germans after their invasion and occupation of Belgium in 1940
So uranium mined in the Belgian Congo would have been used by the Sovjets for there first reactor? I did some research about this, but I could not find confirmation. Does anyone know the source of this information..?

The title should be Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Armed Forces....

DEWLINE, 398TH T Bn, 4th Trans Command, Ft Eustis, Va.
The 398th Trns Bn, made up of several Transportation companies, was one of the major units that was training personnel for loading/off loading of Army Ships for the DEWLINE OPERATION. The article referred to personnel from the Transportation Command, but did not use unit designations. The period of Time for the 398th T Bn was Feb 56 thru Mid 57, then was inactivated upon completion of training, and dispersement of troops to the DEWLINE Sites. Were the clashes between Libya and the United States Part of the Cold War

Inclusion of Wikipedia entries of current and former US, French, Soviet, Canadian and British Kasernes into the Cold War project.
During the Cold War the United States Army deployed two full Corps (VII & V Corps) in Germany from 1950 until after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Hundreds of Kasernes and outposts were located throughout West Germany and in Berlin. The US Air Force also operated many installations along with the Armed forces of our NATO allies. Most of these installations have long been closed and returned to the German government, some have been kept largely intact (Pattonville) while others have been razed and completely redeveloped (Nellingen Kaserne). Millions of soldiers, sailors, airmen, civilians and family members served and lived in Germany over the 4+ decades of the Cold War- making documentation an important part of Cold War history.
Many websites have come and gone on the internet regarding the installations and operations during the Cold War period and, just like World War II, as the veterans age out and die the first hand knowledge and personal photos many time become lost with them. A worthwhile project would be to contact the owners of these sites and invite them formally to share/donate materials to Wikipedia before the information is lost. It would be far easier now to import, reference and collate this information than to reconstruct it from disparate sources later- if ever.
Here are two examples of the ind of information available that could be used to greatly improve Wikipedia's coverage of this part of history.
US Army Germany is a deep website covering the history of the Army during the Cold War. This is a resource that will probably disappear with the owner unless it is preserved or incorporated into Wikipedia.
Please take a look. A ton of work has been done here that would be a shame to lose.
The History of Nellingen Barracks is a more personal, yet well done history of now gone Nellingen Kaserne near Stuttgart. This installation was completely razed and redeveloped as Scharnhauser Park, losing it's history as an airfield used by the Germans during World War II, and the US Army through the Cold War. The author/website owner was a long time German employee of the Army at Nellingen and the work likewise will probably also disappear with him unless it is preserved and incorporated into Wikipedia.

There are many such sites as well as German language sites essentially inaccessible to English speaking users. These resources should be exploited while they are available.
Finally, the British Military is in the midst of a large drawdown and will be completely out of Germany in a couple of years. When the command of British forces in Germany is retired many resources currently located and curated in one place will be scattered to whatever archival the UK government determines with no likely single curator. Again, action taken now could greatly enrich the Wikipedia coverage at far less effort than if undertaken later.

Since the dissolution of Soviet Union, there have been Yugoslav Wars, Gulf War, War in Afghanistan, Iraq War, North-South Korea conflicts, etc. Furthermore, there is Arab Spring. Leaflet for Wikiproject Cold War at Wikimania 2014
Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

Venezuelan participation in Cold War.
Venezuela, like the other Latin American countries, was a member of the Western Bloc. In the Western Bloc article on Wikipedia, are named only 5 Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Dominican Republic and Mexico.
I would like to suggest adding countries like Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and the Central American and the Caribbean countries by the following reasons:
- Venezuela: Was a strong Latin American ally of the United States in the Cold War (See United States-Venezuela relations during the Cold War). The venezuelan dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez received the United States Legion of Merit in 1954. He was a strong anti-communist and was supported by the Eisenhower Administration. Then, in the democratic period, Venezuela supported the US with oil. The democratic governments were also anti-communist, and then, they were allies of the United States. Venezuela joined the Non-Aligned Movement in 1989.

Revamp/Revival of this WikiProject
I think we should revamp this WikiProject so that we can attract more members and work together. I am willing to do most of this, however, this means archiving old information, including this talk page so that we can restart the entire WikiProject. Please let me know if you have any problems with this plan or any suggestions.
