A source that could be used: Jerry Beck's Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons!

I found a book in the bookstore called Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! by Jerry Beck. I'm not going to buy it and join the project, but I will ask the other members to get the book so that they can add real world information about various fictional characters.

This makes the creation of separate articles for *many* fictional characters feasible. Having information about the development of the character will make the articles satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) WhisperToMe (talk) 20:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Missing Information

There are many cases in the article where the information is just general like where it says that spongebob has won employee of the month many times he has actually won exactly 27 times and squidward once —Preceding unsigned comment added by Klg499 (talkcontribs) 16:31, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Centralized TV Episode Discussion

Over the past months, TV episodes have been redirected by (to name a couple) TTN, Eusebeus and others. No centralized discussion has taken place, so I'm asking everyone who has been involved in this issue to voice their opinions here in this centralized spot, be they pro or anti. Discussion is here [1]. Even if you have not, other opinions are needed because this issue is affecting all TV episodes in Wikipedia. --Maniwar (talk) 23:18, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Video game articles

I don't think that each individual SB video game is notable on its own. What do you think of merging them into a single List of SpongeBob SquarePants video games? --CrazyLegsKC 19:04, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Not sure why you think that, the vast majority of them pass notability with ease. There are a couple of obscure PC titles which nobody reviewed but the console ones are no less notable than the next game. Could you give some examples of SB games that you don't think are notable? Someoneanother 02:06, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
According to WP:N, a subject is considered notable only when it has received substantial coverage in reliable secondary sources independent of the subject itself. Most of the video game articles cite no sources or don't cite enough that could be considered "substantial." Also, according to WP:PLOT, articles about published works need to cover the work's development and reception, not just summarize its plot. Only about three of the articles have any of this information, and in most of them the coverage of that information is very brief. By the looks of the articles as they are now, only Atlantis SquarePantis and Creature from the Krusty Krab appear to possibly pass these guidelines. --CrazyLegsKC 12:03, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
They have received substantial coverage, it's just not cited. If every game was fed through Game Rankings or Metacritic then a slew of sources would turn up. It's the same-old same-old, everyone's happy to sling together articles but substantially fewer want to fine-tune them and nobody wants to reference what's there. If this project is actually active enough a list of which games need what could be put together to be worked on, or alternatively some reference tags could be put in place. Someoneanother 14:34, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Portal in disuse, roll-call/update member list?

Is the portal actually needed? Several of its links are red and it hasn't been updated for six months, it's just another time sink. Could I suggest some kind of roll-call too? Checking a few of the contribution histories shows that some of these editors haven't signed in since 2006. If it's not kept up to date it gives no indication of who could be contacted about SB articles. Someoneanother 14:46, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Guidelines

WP:FICT has been revised

WP:FICT, the notability guideline for elements within a work of fiction (characters, places, elements, etc) has a new proposal/revision that is now live [2] Everyone is encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page. Ned Scott 22:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

There is a proposal to split WP:EPISODE into a more general notability guideline, Wikipedia:Notability (serial works), and make the rest of WP:EPISODE just a MOS guideline. Various Issues

Okay, over the past year there have been various issues and situations regarding the SpongeBob articles. I will sum it up in this table:

Situation Result
Episode Articles Redirected to episode list
Long Episode List Split by season
Setting/Places information All have been transwikied; Only Bikini Bottom remains
Character articles Redirected to main list except SpongeBob.
Long character list Transwikied and trimmed down on Wikipedia.
Basically, these have occurred due to, mainly, lack of sources besides the show. Since then, SpongeBob's article has more sources, as well as video game articles and the main episode list. In ragards to the episode information, if we can find plenty of reception and production details for the episodes, we can enrich the season articles to a point where we can split them by individual episode where it meets the proper guidelines. It is quite a big goal, and in the long run can be made possible. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 02:39, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I can't understand WP:Episode. But I really DONT like what they did to the seperate episode articles: "Redirected to episode list". Where and when did the voting started, please tell? Dar book (talk) 07:44, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Nicktoons Unite!

Patrolling recent changes I found some anonymous edits made to Nicktoons Unite! article. As they were unexplained changes of content, I reverted them (with the proper edit summary). The same IP kept making changes (diffs [3], [4], [5], [6]). It may be sneaking vandalism, but I'm not familiar with the subject, so I couldn't say. I'm posting this notice in WikiProjects Nickelodeon, Video games and SpongeBob SquarePants so maybe somebody familiar with the subject can determine whether this is vandalism or not. --PeterCantropus (talk) 06:58, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject SpongeBob SquarePants/Current Newsletter‎

I created Wikipedia:WikiProject SpongeBob SquarePants/Current Newsletter‎ and updated it with July 2007's newsletter (the most recent one I could find). The page was created so that Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Newsletters doesn't have to be continuously updated. If the project plans to start with new newsletters, just paste the entire newsletter on this page and it will update it on the main newsletters' page. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 00:20, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Media franchises

Dear WikiProject SpongeBob SquarePants participants...WikiProject Media franchises needs some help from other projects which are similar. Media franchises' scope deals primarily with the coordination of articles within the hundreds if not thousands of media franchises which exist. Sometimes a franchise might just need color coordination of the various templates used; it could mean creating an article for the franchise as a jump off point for the children of it; or the creation of a new templating system for media franchise articles. The project primarily focuses on multimedia franchises. It would be great if some of this project's participants would come over and help the project get back on solid footing. Also, if you know of similar projects which have not received this, let Lady Aleena (talk · contribs) know. Please come and take a look at the project and see if you wish to lend a hand. You can sign up here if you wish. Thank you. LA @ 21:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Franchise naming convention discussion at WikiProject Media franchises

Dear WikiProject SpongeBob SquarePants participants...WikiProject Media franchises is currently discussing a naming convention for franchise articles. Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for SpongeBob SquarePants

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:08, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Episode screen shots on season episode lists

I've removed episode screen shots from the seasons articles. We do not permit the use of screenshots per episode on lists such as these. This has been the case for more than a year now. Please see Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2007-05-07/Fair_use for background, and WP:NFC for the guideline. Also observe Wikipedia:WikiProject_Television/Episode_lists#Featured_lists and note that not one of the featured lists contains screenshots for each episode. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:38, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, nearly all wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Updates to TV#MOS

I'm not sure how many people monitor WP:MOSTV or even WP:TV (the basic WikiProject for all of us), but we've been trying to get some feedback on additions to the TV Manual of Style. It largely has to do with the inclusion of "Overview" tables at the start of the page, the order in which season lists are presented (currently, there is no concrete order), and what is considered too much info for DVDs (i.e. should we be placing every detail about the box set in the article, from each interview to the aspect ratio, or should be keep it more generalized). Please see discussion at WT:MOSTV#Updates to the MOS. Thank you.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 22:10, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

SpongeBob SquarePants articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the SpongeBob SquarePants articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Character Articles

Can anyone make seperated articles of every character on spongebob?

69.236.175.82 (talk) 01:21, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Drew Harris

Due to the way Wikipedia works, technically yes. But you should only make an article if you think its notable enough to have its own article. For instance, an article on the titular Sponge exists (and is a GA), but you shouldn't make an article for that one guy who appeared in the background in that one episode and said and did nothing. This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Merger of this project into WikiProject Television as a task force

It has been suggested that SpongeBob SquarePants work group to be merged into WikiProject Television as a task force since the project might be inactive or semi-active. After reviewing this project that it appears that there have not been any active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial.
