Radiohead

I've put this article up for peer review, and I wanted to solicit the opinions of members of the Wikiproject on its readiness (or lack thereof) for A or FA status. ErleGrey 22:26, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

It's now at FAC - there are several citation and formatting issues that could do with some help. CloudNine 15:02, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Front page - new design

Currently redoing the front page of this WikiProject. Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Olympics for what it'll be fashioned after. Feel free to add/remove/revert content; it is a wiki after all :) CloudNine 16:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

How's this coming? Wwwhatsup 01:25, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Pretty much finished. Just working on some of the subpages while I can. Hopefully it'll attract a few more members to the project. CloudNine 10:25, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Band WikiProjects as task forces/work groups?

There seems to be quite a few WikiProjects cropping out related to one band; would these function better as task forces? (i.e. subprojects of this WikiProject) For example, The Beatles WikiProject has ratings for more specific areas, such as the band members etc. What do you think? CloudNine 16:44, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

It depends. Obviously some people are really into certain bands, and they might be able to get enough people together to form an efficient subproject. I myself find it hard to commit to something like that; I like The Smashing Pumpkins as a band, but I've found it a bit of a chore trying to muster the enthusiasm to fix up the Billy Corgan page. Glancing at the Beatles Wikiproject I must admit I had trouble finding exactly what you were referring to in regards to task forces. Could ou tell us more about what you have in mind? WesleyDodds 20:39, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
(checks Beatles page) Wikipedia:WikiProject The Beatles/Assessment would be a better example - articles are assessed by musician/area, as well as being assessed overall by the project. I'd be happy to convert Wikipedia:WikiProject Pixies to a task force - it really needs more editors :) The Biography WikiProject has task forces in the way I was referring to. Portal at FPOC

FYI, Portal:Alternative music is at featured portal candidates. CloudNine 18:10, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

And it's now a featured portal! Well done to all those who contributed images, articles etc. :) CloudNine 17:03, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Hooray! WesleyDodds 22:54, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Tapeop magazine

Hey just wanted to give you all a heads up, particularly if your interested in recording and production. I'll refrain from linking it from here, so google "tape op magazine" if you get a chance. It a free (in the US) bi-monthly magazine focused on DIY recording, and well respected in the recording community. With DIY being the focus there are often interviews with alternative and indie rock artists, engineers and producers. Personally I feel it has good source potential. There's a book in the works with some of the best article from the back issues as well. maxcap 17:42, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Severe Tire Damage

Lenoxus is looking to put the article Severe Tire Damage (band) under the scope of a music WikiProject. Could someone listen to some of their music and make a judgement call of where they could be placed? This WikiProject would be my guess, but I'm no expert. -- Reaper X 17:05, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Whoa, I totally forgot about that… thanks, Reaper X and Special:Whatlinkshere/Me!   Lenoxus " * " 17:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Culturcide

Not sure if the above group is within your remit, but it's a new article, if anybody wants to go there and laugh at my mistakes help improve it... Totnesmartin 12:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

SLTS peer review

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is now up at Peer Review. If any alternative song needs to be a Featured Article, it's this. You can leave feedback here. WesleyDodds 09:22, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to be putting this up at FAC within a day unless anyone wants to add any additional comments at peer review. WesleyDodds 13:17, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

"Bam Thwok"

I'm currently looking for professional reviews of the Pixies' 2004 song "Bam Thwok" (NME, Q et al. would be nice), but I don't have access to any 2004 magazines. It would be a great favour if you could point me towards a few reviews and ratings by professional critics. CloudNine 14:18, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

I found this article on Rolling Stone that has an expanded Kim Deal quote about the lyrics (similiar to but longer than what's cited from the book used in the article). The NME site seems hard to search through, but have tried looking for a review for the song there? WesleyDodds 00:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't think it's very helpful, but Billboard has this article. ~ Switch () 12:20, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Minor blurb from Entertainment Weekly: [1] WesleyDodds 12:54, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the links. Trouble is they don't say anything new; perhaps it wasn't a widely-reviewed song. CloudNine 13:23, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
As an aside, after searching through them right now, the EW archives do look pretty good. They go all the way back to 1990, so there's lots of research material there. I just read about the 1990 Grammys and this new thing called "alternative rock" that was breaking through at the time (Of course this is a major mainstream US publication, so the alternative acts that get mentioned the most pre-Nirvana are R.E.M., The Cure, and Morrissey. There are reviews for Bossanova and Trompe le Monde, though). WesleyDodds 13:24, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Indeed, they're a good read; it'll be useful in the future. Ceoil has noted that the current "critical" reactions in the article are user-submitted reviews and fan blogs; I'll have to find some professional reviews or delete the critical reaction paragraph altogether, which would be a shame. Cheers for the links you've provided already though. CloudNine 19:08, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually, there's no longer a problem. Fan reviews seem to be fine, so long as they're noted as such. The FAC has received two supports so far. CloudNine 19:06, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Book sources

For everyone's general information: I've made a list of all the music sources I own here. If anyone needs something sourced, leave a message on my talk page. WesleyDodds 05:18, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Which gives me an idea. Why not create a project-wide list of books and magazines owned, so that we'll be able to draw upon each other for sourcing? CloudNine 11:31, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I'd be up for that. I've been considering making a guideline for referencing, to help illustrate how one can gather information on music publication websites and even mainstream news sites. Knowing what sites to look at and how to search them has helped me source a lot of things on The Smashing Pumpkins and "Smells Like Teen Spirit". WesleyDodds 12:16, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Created. I'll send out a notice to project members to add their references. (done) A group of us should write a small monthly newsletter; it'll help to keep people motivated. CloudNine 12:48, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Pick a GA project!

This is kind of a fun idea.

Currently my main projects are improving Nevermind and The Cure as well as prepping "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for a FA nomination. However, I do want to work on other articles on a consistent, involved basis, and I've arrived at two song articles I want to get to GA status within a month. Thing is, I only want to focus on one. So which article do you all think I should work on: "Just Like Heaven" or "Lovesong"? In case you've never heard either song, here's the former and here's the latter. WesleyDodds 12:50, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Sounds cool Wesley, but you'll likely have to wait more than a month for someone to review the articles at GAC! Lol it seems that way of late. LuciferMorgan 14:09, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's just a general timeframe. The main point is I haven't been able to decide on which of these to focus on, and so I'll leave it to someone else to pick for me. WesleyDodds 23:07, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
I'd go for Just Like Heaven - Dinosaur Jr also released their cover as a single.--Michig 08:18, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Definitely Just Like Heaven. Never liked Lovesong, the bass line drives me nuts. Ceoil 09:50, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

"Just Like Heaven" it is. Though one of the main reasons I was considering "Lovesong" is because of the story behind it (best wedding gift ever?) WesleyDodds 10:35, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

It's taken me a little over a month of work, but I've finally put "Just Like Heaven" up at the Good Article candidates page. WesleyDodds 22:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

And now it's been passed. Fuckin' A. WesleyDodds 21:57, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Butthole Surfers at FAC

Hey everyone, Butthole Surfers is currently at Featured Article Candidates (listed here). Contributions and comments are welcome. I'll do some work on it, particularly since I own Our Band Could Be Your Life and am relatively unaccustomed with this week's collaboration Radiohead (a friend told me I'm the only person he knows who didn't have a Radiohead phase in high school). Still, Radiohead needs contributions to tweak the article for FA status (it's very close), particularly since according to that article's talk page none of the dozen print sources listed in the "Further reading" section are worth citing from (uh, seriously?). WesleyDodds 09:33, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I've never had a Radiohead phase (yet) either :) It's great that we've got so many articles going through FAC now (Surfer Rosa is at FAC atm). CloudNine 09:45, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah. Unfortunately there's been a general slowdown at GAC, PR, and FAC recently. Things seem to be starting to pick up, but all those processes need more reviewers right now, so contributions are encouraged. I'm also surprised that Adore is still at FAC, given "Bam Thwok" got passed so quickly. WesleyDodds 09:53, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Teen Spirit FAC

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is now a Featured Article candidate. You can view the nomination here. WesleyDodds 14:49, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Holy Moley!

3 featured articles promoted in one day! Teemu08 06:29, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

That's awesome. Awesome to the max. I only count three, though (Adore, Surfer Rosa, and "Smells Like Teen Spirit") WesleyDodds 08:18, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Only three, but that's three more than most days :) Up to 11 featured articles now! CloudNine 08:40, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
It's pretty cool that we've got more FAs this month than in the last two years combined. Since we're kind of on a roll, I'd like people to say what articles they'll be working on in the near future in the hopes of attaining FA status, or list which ones they think are close. I'll be working primarily on The Cure, which I hope to have at FA status by the summer; I'd like to see a FA-level British band article, particularly one from the 1980s, for our project. I'll also be tweaking Nevermind as I go along; the main issue here is just getting all my reference material in order. If it's anything like my experience with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", if I or anyone else sits down for a couple of days of intense work, it can reach GA status awfully quick. As for pages I don't really edit myself, Radiohead and Butthole Surfers need some work, but I think we can get them there. WesleyDodds 08:48, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
"Monkey Gone to Heaven" (which will be my last Pixies FA or GA for a while), and probably copyediting Radiohead. I'd also like to see all of Nirvana's releases up to FA status (including Incesticide perhaps). We've had articles that have just missed FA status (like the two you mentioned) that just need a little propping up (such as Kate Bush). CloudNine 08:53, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
For now I'll probably stick in a more Smashing Pumpkins-oriented area, though eventually I might expand to work more on other bands. I hope that with a little more expansion and improvement I can get Today (song) to FA class, and I'm also working on getting Tonight, Tonight to GA class and, eventually, to FA class. --Brandt Luke Zorn 18:07, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

"Today"

Today (song) is currently under Peer Review here. If anyone has any comments to make, that would be the best place to do so. --Brandt Luke Zorn 02:28, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Also, "Tonight, Tonight" is being reviewed here. Comments are still welcome for either. --Brandt Luke Zorn 05:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Hüsker Dü

I've been reading through the Hüsker Dü articles on Wikipedia, and have noticed a total lack of written or web sources referenced. I'd like to try my hand at improving some of the articles - could any recommend good written sources focusing on the band? A quick search doesn't really turn up a lot, apart from Our Band Could Be.... CloudNine 18:43, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Our Band Could Be Your Life should be an adequate primary source of material (A large part of the reason I bought the book was because it covered Husker Du). There's some fansites out there that have magazine scans from the 1980s; I'm not on my computer right now, but when I get home I'll post one of the sitelinks. WesleyDodds 22:26, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, they're featured in Simon Reynold's Rip It Up and Start Again, but not in depth. Also, an Amazon search on them brings up American Hardcore: A Tribal History, which, if it's worth its salt, should focus on them pretty heavily. Sven loreburg 17:42, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
The British version of Rip It Up and Start Again has a chapter on American hardcore/alternative bands, including Husker Du. However, the American version has had this section removed, and Husker Du is only mentioned in passing in the Afterward in the context of the birth of alt-rock, probably because Reynolds realized they weren't part of the post-punk movement he was focusing on. WesleyDodds 10:46, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Newsletter

I've put together a short newsletter detailing the happenings of the Alternative music WikiProject during April here. What do you think of it, and how should it be distributed? CloudNine 17:35, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Ever since I saw you working on that I've had a silly, fun idea that each month the newsletter should also feature a random quote from an alt-rock musician. I've got some hilarious ones, many of which are from the Gallagher brothers. It's just an idea to help create an inviting atmosphere around the project. WesleyDodds 06:20, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Sounds like a good idea :) CloudNine 15:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

Project coverage

Would a publication, like Option, be covered by this project? –Unint 01:55, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Any sort of magazine would be tricky, since often by their nature they cover topics outside of alternative rock. At least with a music festival like Lollapalooza we can say it comes under the scope of the porject since it has been devoted primairly to alt-rock and was instrumental in its overall history. Can we necessarily say that about a particular magazine? WesleyDodds 03:14, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Black Lab

Hi, I was wondering if someone from this WikiProject could drop by and place a banner and a rating on the talk page for Black Lab. Thanks! Chubbles 10:06, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Nine Inch Nails

What are your thoughts on Nine Inch Nails? The article rather well-done and comprehensive. Should we move it up to A-class rating? Is there anything that should be added or fixed? WesleyDodds 11:07, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Go for it. I had some qualms about an earlier version of the article at FAC, but it looks like a really good band article now. CloudNine 18:49, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Genre edit-warring

After witnessing a number of edit-wars over assigning genres to bands (e.g. Queens of the Stone Age and Rage Against the Machine), I'm looking for a reliable npov means of ascertaining band genres. Are there any guidelines/sources out there?–Skomorokh 00:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

All Music Guide is your default choice. They are occasionally wrong, though, so consult a variety of reputable sources that include articles that explicitly discuss a band's genre as well as music encyclopedias. Do not rely on comments by reviewers; this has become an issue on Red Hot Chili Peppers. Do not rely on things like Last.fm where users can add any tag they want to a band. If edit-warring over genres becomes a huge problem, I advise simply listing the broadest genre, such as alternative rock or simply even rock music. WesleyDodds 00:59, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Elliott Smith to be FA of the Day

Elliott Smith will be "Today's Featured Article" on the main page on May 5. WesleyDodds 11:22, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Any and all help deflecting vandalism on the article today will be greatly appreciated! Article's featured on the front page tend to get flayed from all the exposure. - Phorque 10:53, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Statistics

I've calculated our progress in previous months with regards to article ratings. You can see the results, ranging from December to April, here. CloudNine 21:38, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

"Alternative rock"

I listen to a wide variety of music from different eras and genres, ranging from the 1950s to the 2000s, and I like a lot of what might be termed "alternative rock". The problem I have with this WikiProject is the definition of "alternative rock", and the perceived implication that alternative rock is better than other types of rock, especially the rock music that appeared before the punk movement, a lot of which I like.-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 19:22, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

How does the project imply that alternative rock is "better than" rock? I'm not sure what you mean by that. CloudNine 19:47, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
A lot of the bands may feel like what they're doing is better than other kinds of rock, but we here at the project certainly do not subscribe to that view. Whether you like Jim Croce and Journey or not, we welcome anyone interested in helping the project. WesleyDodds 23:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm talking about the general aura of Pitchfork Media elitism. The Kid A article was really non-NPOV for a long time before it reached GA.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 04:46, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Honestly I can't stand Pitchfork. If there are some specific problems with specific NPOV problems let us know. WesleyDodds 05:23, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm considering starting a new WikiProject about bands and artists I like, possibly an 'avantgarde rock music WikiProject', including avantgarde, experimental, free improvising, progressive, post-rock, krautrock, electronic, jazz fusion and classically influenced rock bands. The bands and artists I would hope to include would be quite diverse. Obviously there are alternative rock, jazz and electronic music WikiProjects already, though, so I'm not sure that the broad and possibly vague focus of what I would like to create would be compatible with the WikiProject guidelines. Would you support the creation of such a related WikiProject?-h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 23:50, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Kid A

The article is an FA candidate. Please could anyone with some spare time have a look at it. Thanks - Alex valavanis 09:59, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

We made it! Congratulations to everyone who contributed :D - Alex valavanis 09:12, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Band biographies

I'll be able to go to the book store either tomorrow or Wednesday, or both if need be. I know for sure (unless they don't have it) that I'll get Heavier than Heaven. Are there any other alternative rock biographies/reference books that I should buy while I'm there? --Brandt Luke Zorn 04:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

I'd honestly recommend that you get whatever interests you. I know what band bios to try and avoid given your interests. Five Against One: The Story of Pearl Jam is apparently very biased and None Too Fragile: Pearl Jam & Eddie Vedder has a lot of information, but the author does not cite where it comes from; there's not even an index. The Smashing Pumpkins bio Tales of a Scorched Earth is, anecdotes about the band's early days excepted, pretty useless and pretty much amount to the author waxing poetically for pages about how great the band is. Hmm, actually there's a book of Rolling Stone articles about Kurt Cobain that looks invaluable; it's at my local Borders, but I'm not that particularly interested in buying it given how much I've already read about Nirvana in my life. Slept under a bridge, stomach pains, sounds like a Motley Crue record, yadda yadda; it's almost second nature to me at this point. If you're interested in working on any alternative group articles from the 1980s, get Our Band Could Be Your Life (Interesting tidbit: one of the chapters in that book mentions a show one of the bands did in the town I live in now. Azerrad got the venue address wrong, though.). If you want to learn about British alternative rock, check out John Harris' Britpop!: Cool Britannia and The Spectacular Demise of English Rock. It of course focuses on Britpop and the 1990s, but there's a lot of space given to set-up during the 1980s. WesleyDodds 09:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
You could take a look at In Utero 33 1/3 (good series of books - they should really be one on Zen Arcade though). CloudNine 19:30, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
The selection of the books is based on whatever potential authors pitch to the company during their open submissions process. Meaning, I was considering pitching New Day Rising but I wasn't sure how many people would buy it, so I chose something else. Mine didn't get picked up, regardless. :( WesleyDodds 19:33, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
Here's a list of what's been released and what's coming out from the 33 1/3 series: [2] WesleyDodds 19:37, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
There's a book on Double Nickels. Awesome. CloudNine 19:39, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
You might want to approach the Daydream Nation one with caution. Thurston Moore popped up on the comments section of the prerelease preview post to point out the author wrote pages of material on lyrics he cited incorrectly. it was pretty funny. WesleyDodds 19:41, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, I was able to get Heavier than Heaven and have the In Utero and Bee Thousand books in the 33 1/3 series on order. I almost bought Our Band Could Be Your Life at the last minute but ended up not doing so. Thanks for the recommendations! --Brandt Luke Zorn 05:12, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" as FA of the Day

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is going to be the project's second listing at Today's Featured Article on Main Page this month, on May 26. This is especially surprising since I didn't even get around to nominating it for the front page yet. Nevertheless, it's quite exciting.

Man, people are going to vandalize the fuck out of this page, aren't they? WesleyDodds 19:07, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, someone's already moved it to "Smells like Teen Spirit", which is incorrect. CloudNine 15:26, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I just put in a query right now. The move was done by an editor I trust; it's rather the guideline itself I have issue with. Oh, and the Main Page date has apparently been moved to May 31. WesleyDodds 15:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

OK Computer

I've submitted this article for a peer review, I'd like it if someone could take the time to either leave a comment or work on the page. Thanks! ErleGrey 23:01, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

"Today" for FA

I'm going to nominate "Today" for featuring soon. Does anyone have any last nitpicks before it's torn apart at WP:FAC? --Brandt Luke Zorn 23:57, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Can you add more about the lyrics? That paragraph is awfully short. Since you probably can't find anything more that Corgan has said about the song, try and find some critical analysis and interpretation of the lyrics. WesleyDodds 07:21, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
I couldn't find a whole lot - I got one more statement from Billy and a quote from the San Francisco Chronicle, which still serve to buff up the section a little bit. Anything else? --Brandt Luke Zorn 04:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
A minor point, but I'm not sure mentioning what compilation albums "Today" appeared on is notable enough for the lead. Anyway, I think it's worth taking to FAC. CloudNine 17:17, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Stereolab

Submitted for peer review after a major rewrite. I think it's at or close to FA quality. Would appreciate comments from those with FA music article experience. - Merzbow 07:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I've now nominated for FAC here. Thanks for the peer review help guys. - Merzbow 04:14, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Yay, now an FA. Thanks for everyone's help. - Merzbow 02:21, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

A little something I got a kick out of...

Looks like we may have an alternative rock apocalypse coming. I just saw that in the Comedy Central cartoon series Lil' Bush, the character of God will be played by Jeff Tweedy while Satan will be played by Frank Black. :-) Teemu08 04:51, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I suppose that finally tops Michael Stipe as an ice cream man in Pete & Pete. Yeah, I know Dave Grohl played the Devil in that Tenacious D video, but that kind of makes sense. Tweedy vs. Frank Black . . . that's bizarre. WesleyDodds 09:47, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Uncle Tupelo

Uncle Tupelo has been at FAC for over a week now with only two comments, and its been almost a week since I've received the last one. I'd greatly appreciate any input you guys have - I'm dying of boredom here because I don't want to start a new project until this one finishes (except some work on Sky Blue Sky, which is currently a DYK on the main page). Teemu08 01:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

userbox

I think our project needs a userbox, no? - Merzbow 17:19, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

{{User Wikiproject Alternative Music}}. There's a link on the main page. CloudNine 17:22, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, dunno how I missed that... - Merzbow 18:33, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam, one of our top-importance articles, is up at peer review here. Feel free to comment or address any of the issues raised by JohnnyW's review. CloudNine 14:26, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Be Here Now FAC

Be Here Now, an article about Oasis' (not so great) third album, is up at Featured Article Candidates. Ceoil and I have been working on this, and would appreciate feedback and additional reviewers. We also need someone to add and verify all the chart placings. WesleyDodds 09:47, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

"How Soon is Now?" talk page

I was scrolling through our importance categories to rate articles and I discovered that the talk page of "How Soon Is Now?" is currently located at . . . er, Talk:The Chamed Theme Song. Both the article and talk page have been moved a number of times, making a mess of the history. Can anyone fix this? WesleyDodds 05:55, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Should be fixed now. CloudNine 08:14, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

OK GO info.

I'm wondering if anyone could help out with Ok Go's Tim Nordwind's and Dan Konopka's biographies. Any extra info. on their careers will be appreciated. Rosa 23:10, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Dookie

I got the album, Dookie, to read GA status in a day after I re wrote the entire thing, but now I need some major help from anyone willing to help. Wesley is a fan of the album himself, and says he has a few good sources to help, but anyone is welcomed to help. If you think you can help significantly, please leave a message on my Talk page! Thanks :) Xihix 16:07, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

It's in the FAC. If you see some things they say to fix, please don't hesitate to do so, it's so close to FA! Xihix 06:11, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Early punk bands

Do first generation punk bands like the Clash, Ramones and Sexpistols come under Alt music project? Granted that alt rock was an 80s underground movement, but then we also list almost every punk band of today.Tommy Stardust 06:43, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Nope. They fall under the scope of Wikipedia:WikiProject Punk music. That also covers post-punk, New Wave, and modern punk bands. Punk bands only come under our scope if they cross over into the alt-rock genre (notable examples include Siouxsie & the Banshees, Husker Du, and Green Day). WesleyDodds 07:06, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Tool at FAC

Hi folks.. I will be submitting Tool to FAC tonight or tomorrow. It would be awesome if some of you could help me out getting this article to FA status. Since I will be moving from Barcelona back to Berlin on Wednesday, I will most probably be very grateful for any spare minute you could spend on addressing any of the objections that the article will encounter. Thanks in advance, and best wishes, Johnnyw talk 19:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I nominated the article for Featured Article status. Please feel free to comment/review/or help out at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Tool (band) . Johnnyw talk 21:26, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Anyone else a little iffy about considering Tool an alternative rock band? Teemu08 04:10, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
There's been some back and forth about that here on Wikipedia. I know one editor over at List of alternative rock artists was arguing against it. WesleyDodds 05:19, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Prose review and newsletter

I've created a prose review page to allow those articles (especially featured article candidates) in need of a copyedit to attract copyeditors. It may help improve the quality of prose (for example, Sky Blue Sky failed recently due to prose concerns).

  • Sky Blue Sky is back at FAC, hopefully with a better outcome this time. Teemu08 20:52, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Also, from Sunday I'll be away from Wikipedia for at least a week. Therefore, someone else will need to update the project happenings (I've started it) by the end of the month (a bot will deliver it automagically). CloudNine 17:29, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I'll take care of the newsletter. WesleyDodds 19:26, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
