I've looked at this article for a while now and it really should be a FA but is to long. Im calling in outside help to see what can be cut down. American Patriot 1776 01:49, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Few things:

Cut down the explanations, especially of the Yoda-Palpatine duel. That should take 2-3 KB away right there.
A lot of the plot elements touched upon don't need to be elaborated as they are (such as Yoda going to see Organa). Some of them can be briefly mentioned, but there's no need to recite the entire story of ROTS.
There is a lot more information, but I think I'll leave it to other people. It's going to be very difficult getting this to FA status. Deckiller 02:00, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of the extra stuff shouldn't be there. Instead have a link to another article. Like all the extra Revenge of the Sith info should be cut and have a link to the Wikipedia page which explains it. Jedi6 -(need help?) 23:56, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The whole section on the style of address seems out of place and tacked on. On the same note, try to reduce the amount of terms in those first paragraph; "Palpatine" and "Darth Sidious" would work fine. Agree with the above: start trimming the section on ROTS and the stuff not directly related to Palpy. Have links to the movies where appropriate. The focus is all wrong. The article should describe Palpatine as a fictional character in our universe, not as a real character in a fictional universe. The cohesiveness of the story doesn't matter. What's important is to keep in mind that Palpatine is a fictional character and a role played by an actor in the Star Wars films. Aside from a brief statement in the lead, a way-too-short "Portrayal" section, and the messy list that is "Palpatine's influence on popular culture", the current article treats him as if he's as real as Theodore Roosevelt—and he's not. The article should reframe everything to discuss and focus on the development of the character, the makeup used, the costume design, the actor's approach to the role, the use of the character by the creators of the novels, comic books, and games, etc. The current write up is perfect for the Wookieepedia, which documents the Star Wars universe as if it were a real place.
